U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ordered an ethics review of the military Thursday following the resignation of former CIA Director David Petraeus. Sheryl Gay Stolberg, Washington Correspondent for The New York Times, discussed the propriety of Petraeus and General John Allen intervening in a custody battle. "At the heart of it is a question of the conduct of our military, of the conduct of our highest-ranking civil servants," Stolberg said.

Obama's second term agenda. The people want more government and think the "rich" will pay for it, give it to em, stick it in break it off. As a bonus, he will continue to increase regulations and taxes on businesses that pay for government spending. Perfect!
Atlas shrugged?, no, we have democrats gnawing away at the Achilles tendons like the rats that they are.
The Obama presidency seems to be at the extremes of stupidity and apparently stupidity is in style.
So, how do we keep away from the fiscal cliff?
BTW, lots of gov't spending goes to... get this... businesses. And to people who buy things from... businesses.
What about the fiscal cliff?
The cost of extending the Bush Tax Cuts will be $3.1 Trillion dollars over the next decade. I demand my free stuff from the government say some. My kids and grandkids will not be happy in paying your tab.
Pee pee tic, if you're this poor a loser, it's a good thing you lost. Better get used to it, you're gonna be doing that alot in the future.
Although my previous comments do not reflect my feelings or opinion on the election, but rather the actual policies of the president. I am an angry loser, why shouldn't I be. To think that a perfectly qualified, honorable candidate was beaten by a lying, unqualified, narcissist, with four years of failure under his belt, who won the election by buying votes with welfare checks, birth control pills, illegal waivers for illegal aliens and lets not forget the accomplice media, it does tend to create a few ripples in my pond...
Ron Paul’s farewell address to Congress November 14, 2012
"I have thought a lot about why those of us who believe in liberty, as a solution, have done so poorly in convincing others of its benefits. If liberty is what we claim it is- the principle that protects all personal, social and economic decisions necessary for maximum prosperity and the best chance for peace- it should be an easy sell. Yet, history has shown that the masses have been quite receptive to the promises of authoritarians which are rarely if ever fulfilled."

Well said, partisanpolitics. I won't say "I told you so", and I sure don't mean to get preachy, but some of us have known this was coming for a long time.

"I often think of the Tytler quote (attributed to him), "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years."
We are living on borrowed time already. People HAVE figured out they can vote themselves gifts of OPM. I truly fear where another 4 years of Obama would take us."

Knowing in advance that they only had 8 questions to ask the President in his first press conference in six months, Christi Parsons, the White House reporter for the Chicago Tribune, who unabashedly fawned over Obama and breathlessly extended her congratulations for being re-elected, couldn't wait to ask a soft ball questions about Iran and whether the U.S. could go over the fiscal cliff.
New York Times reporter Mark Landler asks about climate change even though President Obama actually said that hurricane Sandy had zero to do with climate change. Wow! Meanwhile, FOX News reporter Ed Henry asked whether the President thought he had a mandate, and whether the President would address the families of those killed in Benghazi.
You can tell there is a lie coming whenever President Obama expresses faux outrage over anything. Obama was quivering when he scolded Senator McCain for questioning why Ambassador Rice would be Obama's first choice for Secretary of State when she went on five Sunday talk shows parroting the White House lie that Benghazi was a spontaneous attack based on a YouTube video.
Imagine if that were a President Romney. Not only would there be no congratulations on his win, but they would still be asking for his tax returns.
If you Republicans knew what you were talking about -Mitt Romney would be President.

Lets not get into who is a lying, unqualified, narcissist, with four years of failure under his belt, but let me just say that I really hope that there are some moderate republicans still out there that did get the message that insulting an imaginary 47% "that want things given to them and will never take any personal responsibility" is a loosing agrument. Why would you, Rush, O'Reilly double down on this stupid perspective... do you want to become completely irrelevant or are you just not interested in governing this country with the rest of us? You can keep sitting in your Mom's basement yelling at the TV while the progressives of this country continue to move forward, or you can start to speak intelligently and respectfuly about reality and help to make all of these necessary programs better and more affordable...
The house republicans should call Obama's bluff and allow the spending cuts from sequestration. This is probably the only chance for real fiscal responsibility we are going to have for quite some time. We have all learned I hope by now, these so called baseline budget cuts in exchange for tax increases are just a mirage, there will be no cuts.
A little positive news this week, indicates that many republican and a few democratic Governors are organizing to block Obamacare state exchanges. With the mounting law suits on the particulars and the increasing awareness that Obamacare is a job killer, this fight might not be lost after all.

While it is true that people who are exposed for what they really are usually take that as an insult, the facts are the facts. About half the population receives some form of federal government subsidy that they don't want to let go of and only want increased, SS and medicare included, both of these programs are now in the red, medicare which will be killed off by Obamacare if left to stand, is in terrible shape.
On Fox News there is a widely held idea that republicans can sway Latino votes with commonly held conservative values. The problems for republicans in national elections is daunting, but to think Latinos share conservative values is patently false, Hispanics are much more relate-able to black culture and all it's failings than they are to white conservatives. This is a dead end road for republicans. Reagan and his amnesty for illegals produced a temporary blip on the radar screen for republican support.
"The house republicans should call Obama's bluff and allow the spending cuts from sequestration. "
I agree. What you heard in the press conference on Wednesday was the sound of Obama blinking. First term: re-election; second term: legacy.
Remember those princples and interpreting what Obama does is easy.
Take a hint, boys and girls: Look at the picture and read the story.
DRShow wants us fixated on Petaeus.
"Libertarians" (makes me laugh, they're aspiring tax evaders) supported Romney Reagan Reincarnate because he looka lika they daddie, and now they hate having a clever Black guy for their boss 4 more years. Why don't you shoe throwers start a petition to secede from this commentary? Even the GOP is distancing itself from Rombo's welfare queen remarks. I wonder what "ideas" this financial royalist possesses he can share with Obama at their upcoming 10 minute conference.
OK.... I'll take the bait. Petraeus and some generals are being purged as disloyal to Obama in a post election realligment, not far different than the 10 year thing in China. I don't see it as a bad thing. Everytime I ask my CIA friends about particular celebrities they always answer, "He was just a playboy, not an operator of any substance." James Bond-like playboys rule the world in their imagiations ..... is the only conclusion one can draw.
I used Fizzion. Now I don't smell pp or rotten eggy anymore.

Come on, seriously? What ideal country are you trying to create? I take it you're one of those "Take America Back" conservatives. Take it back to what? To the 1950's or 1960's in which white males ruled at the expense of others who weren't? It's a shame that your comments are so hateful and false. Your boy Willard needs to include himself in the 47% because he doesn't pay income taxes, rather at the the capital gains rate. And who are you to judge a group of people based on the BLACK CULTURE AND ALL IT'S FAILINGS??? What do you mean by that?
Ms Rehm can you ask the pannel if was any other time in America history that the rhetoric has been this extreme that other States have tried to leave are united. And does the States realize that we have will threats is greater than our place disagreements.?
PP once again shows his keen intellect and strong understanding of the Black and Hispanic community. Please continue elucidating us on your vast knowledge and where you obtained it. I'll stay on the line and listen for your response.

I agree 100%.
Can the panel address whether Mitt Romney has now squandered the goodwill obtained with his gracious concession speech by returning to his petulant child ways with his interview the other day?

I agree with you. Here is my 47%. Let’s end Corporate welfare, if a company cannot be profitable on its own, let it die. Lets remember that a Government is not a business, not even similar. A government is to do things a business cannot, like provide security and health care, and education to people of the country that are unable or even unwilling to do so for themselves. The USA should not be focused on turning a profit.

At the risk of "forcing anyone into a dialog", first I disagree that Latino voters do not share conservative SOCIAL values. They do. But economically, too many are on the public t_t. That's what the Latino vote was about this time. The majority of Hispanics are lower and lower-middle economic class. They ALSO voted primarily for the party that promised them the most stuff.
The economic message of Republicans HAS to be one that explains why the "free stuff" pradigm is a dead-end for them and for the country.
I wonder how much we are paying for the "station visits"?

I wouldn't get too excited. The Obama win was a tactical win, not an ideological one.

Yeah, because people always vote for the best "tactics". Comical the lengths people will go to in an effort to not acknowledge the truth.
ecgberht wrote: "I wouldn't get too excited. The Obama win was a tactical win, not an ideological one"
How so?
ecgberht wrote: "I disagree that Latino voters do not share conservative SOCIAL values"
"Social science and experience prove that Hispanics are not natural Republicans or conservatives. The hard data shows that Hispanics overwhelmingly favor the redistributive policies of the welfare state. It is affinity for the welfare state and not opposition to the GOP on immigration that drives the Hispanic vote to trend heavily Democratic."
"Hispanics have not shown any affinity to vote Republican based on family values; this is because Hispanic family values in America are generally not conservative.
This piece written by Heather MacDonald is a depressing but thorough account of the sad state of Hispanic family values six years ago. The out-of-wedlock birth rate among Hispanics was 44% then. It is 53% now. That is not a heartening trend. The only demographic with a higher rate of out-of-wedlock births is African-Americans. The evidence does not indicate that Hispanics as a group are prone to embracing conservative family values."
Sanandaji, unlike the anti-intellectual GOP punditocracy, actually went through exit poll data to reach his conclusions. His examination of 2008 exit polling uncovered the fact that 71% of Hispanics wanted a bigger government to do more. A Pew survey from 2011 has 75% of Hispanics supporting higher taxes and a bigger government (against 19% opposed to a bigger government and higher taxes). Exit polling also shows that Hispanics heavily support Democrats over Republicans on Obamacare, taxes, welfare, gun control, energy policy, and foreign affairs.
Reuters exit polls provide more facts that contradict the idea that Hispanics embrace conservative family values. It turns out that 68% of Hispanics agree with the Obamacare contraception mandate and 57% agree with the Democratic Party platform on abortion.

Yes. Bravo. End all subsidies. And thanks for the stats on the individual companies.
"Lets remember that a Government is not a business, not even similar."
Then why are Democrats so quick to tout the (illusory) Clinton "surplus" and pound the Bush debt?!
"A government is to do things a business cannot, like provide security and health care, and education to people of the country that are unable or even unwilling to do so for themselves. "
NO!!! If busniesses are supposed to make money or go bk and government does all that other stuff, what do the PEOPLE DO???!!! Show me in the Constitution of the United States where the government is charged with providing "health care and education"! And if by security, you mean security in their persons, I agree. If you are talking about financial security - NO WAY. That's not the government's job!
It would be interesting to compare the the responses of Republican leaders when there was criticism of then Secretary of State Colin Powell to the UN about the existence of WMD in Iraq. Much of the defense of his statement was that he (Powell) was using the best, current intelligence at the time. Also, when Condy Rice was nominated as his replacement as Secretary of State, they (Republicans) defended her statements about "a mushroom cloud" by claiming that they were also based on the best, current intelligence. The criticism of UN Ambassador Susan Rice appears to me to be a double standard at best.
