I keep hearing this was a status quo election. I beg to differ. Democrats won big in the Senate, especially given their vulnerability (more D seats were up). And Barney Frank said on one of the news shows last night that Democratic wins in the House would have been enough to take the House except for the effects of redistricting. I've not heard others make this point about redistricting.
What do your panelists think?
On election night Jon Stewart stated one of the most asinine comments I have ever heard him make. He said "which ever one is elected they will be bombing Iran" How irresponsible and dangerous to say such horrific things.
So will President Obama roll over and get behind a strike on Iran based on unsubstantiated claims or will he take a stand against Israel striking Iran based on these un proven claims that they keep repeating?
In the leadup to the international roundup I think I heard you describe the drone incident with Iran as the Iranians firing on an 'unarmed' drone. The term "unarmed" is usually a term used to describe a person, not an object, and in this context that's important. This was an unmanned drone. If an unmanned drone were flying 16 miles off the coast of the United States, I have no doubt that it would be shot down. Americans wouldn't tolerate such a thing.
Love yer show. thanks for all the great work!
Over at the most well read and researched blog on the middle east Mondoweiss Phil Weiss, Adam Horowitz and Alex Kane wrote an amazing blog on the election "Obama's victory highlights a bad night for the Jewish right" and another amazing report with a great deal of research " Election results: The Jewish right goes down in the House and Senate"
Both reports are amazing.
Israel and the I lobby successfully turned attention to Iran and away from the continued daily expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank and E Jerusalem.
Diane when will you and your team actually do a whole hour on the illegal settlements that have never stopped expanding. Never.
Wow have heard Israel mentioned more in these last 15 minutes than I have heard on your show in years. When will you spend a whole hour on illegal settlements? When?
Now that the President has been reelected, he should have a stronger hand when dealing with Israel. If Israel wants peace, serious peace, then they're going to have to make real efforts towards a two state solution and dismantling new settlements on Palestinian owned land, particularly in East Jerusalem. If you want to provide Iran with an incentive to halt nuclear weapons development how about just for a beginning STOP threatening them with military invasion every ten minutes.
Sometime he jokes, but on this one, it was actually true.
If the trend continues, Iran WILL be bombed and the U.S. will be behind it even if it's Israel.
Face Reality on that account. Horrible or not, its the truth.
Yoghi that was the most absurd comment. No one paying attention thinks the Democrats are behind the Palestinians and the Republicans are behind Israel. You and anyone paying attention to this issue know that for decades DECADES there is no difference in either party on this issue. Congressional members vote in lockstep with the I lobby representing Israel in our congress. No difference in these votes in either party for decades. The majority of congressional members get in line behind Israel no matter what they do. Has been a real problem. If a congressional member like Paul Findlay stands up the I lobby they are voted out. You know this. No daylight between the parties on this issue
So db do you support an attack on Iran based on unsubstantiated lies? Sounds like you do. Many experts state that all hell will break lose. You think people in that part of the world are pissed off at us now if Israel and the U.S. attack Iran based on the neocons lies they are not going to lie down and take it and they should not. Enough of this neocon warmongering. Enough!
Israel should sign the NPT, quit threatening their neighbors, and stop expanding illegal settlements. Start playing by the same rules that they want their neighbors to abide by.
Jon Stewart should apologize for such a dangerous asinine comment.
Given the current makeup of the Congress and their known policy how likely is it that any candidate nominated by the President for any post will be confirmed? Their policy is one of obstruction of anything the President needs. It's still their # 1 goal to make him a one term President. As to Greece, the primary reason they are hundreds of millions in debt us because they swapped the debt they had for Collateralized Debt Obligations and Credit Default Swaps. The same financial instruments that sank the American economy. Social programs are a small percentage of their economic woes.
db not funny at all, Not funny. Dangerous and irresponsible
Diane when are you and your team going to have Hillary Mann and Flynt Leverett on to discuss Iran? You know they were both officials in the Bush 43 administration and stood against the invasion of Iraq. You know Hillary has directly negotiated with Iran. You know they are serious experts on this issue. You have had Flynt on in the past. Is the I lobby hassling your program keeping you from having the Leveretts on? Grow some and have them on so that the American public can actually be well informed about what has really gone on with Iran over the decades, what rights they do have as signatories of the NPT and how they have offered to agree to certain enrichment terms that the U.S. as a proxy for Israel turned down. WHEN ARE YOU AND YOUR TEAM GOING TO HAVE THEM BOTH ON AS GUEST? WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
I am Gene from Utah--and one of the aspects of Obama's campaign in Colorado that is little known is that 100s of Utahn (including me and my wife) went to Colorado and worked for Obama--and it had its affect. We decided that working for a Democrat in Utah was a fruitless enterprise.
Wonderful Gizger. I have worked on Get out the Vote Campaigns in Ohio and Colorado for years. During the last four election cycles 2006, 08,10 and 12 have talked with and worked with quite a few Republicans who were not only voting for Obama but working for the campaign. Happened in Ohio in the Strickland, Zack Space, Sherrod Brown campaigns. Republicans working for these candidates. The Kasich campaign against Strickland convinced Reagan Dems to go with Kasich. Little did they know what Kasich had in the works for unions and collective bargaining. Sometimes it takes getting hit over the head for voters to get it and not be convinced to vote against their own self interest.
Good for you for coming on over to Colorado where I am residing part of the year
