Friday News Roundup Video

The 2012 national elections ushered in a historic number of female legislators, including key wins by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Tammy Baldwin and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. Ron Elving of NPR said the number of women running for office, the quality of their candidacies and re-election rates hit record highs, as did voter turnout among women. "I remember when I first start working for the United States Senate as a staff member in 1985, there was not a women's restroom on the level with the Senate chamber. They had to go to another floor, and there weren't that many to go there," Elving said. "So we have just transformed the Senate in that 30 year period." USA Today's Susan Page said studies indicate that female elected officials tend to seek alliances and common ground across party lines more than their male counterparts do.

Hypocrisy To The Max -

When the working poor and disabled and the poor and retirees and military and cops and entry level teachers and social workers all with families FOLLOW THE RULES and end up with smaller or zero Fed income tax bills after they file, the Blame Stream Media and cookie cutter conservatives say they "just want a handout"; they are "victims" and "not personally accountable" and "dependent".

When GE et al use the very same tax rules and also end up paying zilch in Fed income taxes, they not only are labeled the bogus "job creators" but also applauded for their shrewdness and creativity.........and drag bales of profits to their crony banks local and offshore.

AND at the risk of being repetitious, those who FOLLOWED THE RULES during their entire working lives PAYing into Social Security and Medicare are decidedly ENTITLED to benefit from those programs. (NOTE: Medicare does charge premiums as do Med Supp plans including Part D.)

We must regard those who mischaracterize and suggest a disparaging view of the English word "entitlement" (in spite of its French roots) as either illegal non-English speakers or intentionally ignorant. When one EARNS a benefit or PAYS for it, one is entitled to claim it under the rules extant.

Just another example in the unending examples of liberal dishonesty.

Given how much you seem to disagree with Diane and every guest she brings on, you both seem to do a great job showing up to every comment section (often before it airs).

Why not frequent an audience more receptive to your message and areas of debate? I can recommend Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck to you...

@HonestAbe - Thank You.

We all pay quite a bit in taxes to social security and medicare and do so for basically our entire lives. I AM entitled to that should I fall on hard times and need it (or retire).

Apparently what we should be doing is rewarding those who are doing very well for themselves already.

Statistically your WERE likely to get three times as much out of Medicare than what you put in. No matter Medicare is dead as you know it anyway.

It's more interesting to bring the debate to the heart of the problem.

Maybe your the one that should listen to those shows and bring your message and areas of debate to them. But I know, you just can't stand to be disagreed with, hence this comment.

@partisan politics:
So Eric admits that this is where all the liberals hang out! Eric would prefer to live in the firehouse where everyone agrees with him.
Oh, and Eric ... "you both seem to do a great job showing up...(often before it airs).
Show me ONE instance when I have done that. I don't think I have ever posted before the show starts - maybe on a rare occasion, but I don't think so. But I had no trouble finding two out of five days this week when YOU posted prior to the start of the show, as did Etaoin Shrdlu who frequently complains about same! You're not big on facts though, are you?

We agree 100% on this. Which is why it's so critical that entitlement reform take place - so people who have paid in DO get something back. Sorry, but Democrats talk a great game about that, but don't want to actually do anything about it.

Energy independence arguments by the oil industry are a red herring. From what I read, they currently sell gasoline and diesel fuel off shore to the tune of 2 million barrels per day. Right and they intend exporting all the Canadian Tar Sand oil as well. All the risks to us to skim some profit while saving the Canadians from building their own Pipeline.

"We must save this country," Mr. Voight told about 50 people, mostly party operatives and campaign volunteers, who crowded shoulder to shoulder in a small room at the Republican headquarters on North Washington Avenue.

Mr. Voight recited parts of the mournful speech from "Camelot," during which King Arthur asks a boy to remember "that once there was a fleeting wisp of glory called Camelot."

"I don't want the United States to be 'once there was,' and your efforts may make the difference," Mr. Voight told the campaign volunteers.

He said Americans will see a nation broken like never before if voters re-elect Mr. Obama.

"Obama says how can we trust Romney," Mr. Voight said. "The truth is how can we trust him (Mr. Obama)."

Anybody else old enough to remember what John Wayne, the GOP's favorite WWII Battleship Commander, rugged Cattle Baron, general all-around Super Patriot and off screen, drunken pool ball thrower at passing cars, thought about Voight after his Debutt in Midnight Cowboy??

Also not so long ago, remember what the absolute most fearless and deadly fighter in the World, Chuck Norris said about that during one Presidential campaign??

"There are Conservatives in Hollywood, but they are afraid to speak out."

The presidential race ended gracefully. The concession and the expressions of good will were comforting and even heart-warming. Actually my chest swelled with emotion. However, the process is endangered by trends not controlled by any individual.

Democracy is on the Rocks.

The Presidential Election went well. The Two-Party System, like it or not, will survive for quite some time. The concession speech and the expressions of good will from both sides were traditional but yet comforting and even heart-warming. The system will survive but it is evolvimng. There are disturbing trends.

I would disagree with Susan Page. Rush Limbaugh is the head of the Republican Party.

Governance requires some kind of consensus. Partisanship will only produce gridlock:
