My mom was in a nursing home on Medicaid until she died so my "arse" has already been there, kathleen.

Reagan said it best, ""Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so."
Don, you've studied how "and this is the best analysis you can come up with?! Too funny! Let's break it down, shall we?

"Facts: Republican conservative policies of removal of regulations and weakening of enforcement of regulations caused the financial collapse."
You misspelled 'F-a-c-t'. It's spelled 'F-a-l-s-e'. I addressed this in another post. If not for government intrusion in housing, the Great Recession does not happen. That is why so many economists see this period as a perfect storm.
"No companies or corporations could stop the slide into another Great Depression. Only government intervention could put the breaks on the slide. This was started under President Bush, but it was not enough. All advisors to President Obama knew this. The policies of President Obama prevented another Great Depression. As President Clinton has accurately stated, no President, not him or any of President Obama's predecessors could have overcome this problem in four years."
I have posted here about the UC study that shows how FDRs expansionist policies of the FG prolonged the Great Depression and, by extension, how Obama's policies have done the same.

Part deux

"There remain several major negative economic factors that prevent a full recovery, two for example, the housing/foreclosure crisis, and the worldwide economic slowdown. This will take years to resolve. All economists know that the last economic factor to recover in a downturn is the unemployment rate."
Housing? yes, "worldwide economic slowdown?" Economists generally do not believe that is a really big factor. Turn off MSNBC and watch CNBC, FFN, or Bloomberg. The biggest factor you don't even mention is the fear that exists in the business world with regard to Obama regualtory policy and tax policy. That's what's keeping us in the doldrums. You don't even MENTION jobs! That is the key to economic recovery, not "stimulus" or QEInfinity.
"Thinking based on beliefs instead of facts and evidence allows deception to gain power" indeed.
I think you need some remedial study.

Oh come on. While I understand the premise, I am annoyed that DR and her guests were obviously being extremely nice to Jim Lehrer because he is a good friend and respected colleague. They all gushed over him and Diane even cut off a caller severely the moment the caller even began to indicate any criticism for his performance by asking what kind of training moderators have to have before hosting a debate. Anyone with eyes and a brain could see that Lehrer, as good as a journalist as he may well be, did an absolutely terrible job. I don't care how nice of a man he is. Lehrer himself knows he did poorly and indicated so outloud in the debate. Perhaps Lehrer was extrememly distraught afterwards and that is why his friends are rallying around him. I can understand that, but it shows a serious and deliberate lack of objectivity as a news show.

Lehrer did a better job than anyone could have imagined. He allowed, whether intentionally or not, Romney and President Obama to explain and defend their positions. The moderator is not supposed to be the star of the debate. It is refreshing that Diane and her panel are not blaming Lehrer for Obama's poor performance, or conversely, for Romney's superb performance.

October 5, 2012 - 5:01 pm

He did not need to be the star, he needed to moderate. Moderating means utlimately having control of the direction. He did not have any control. He was steamrolled. He reminded me of the character in Office Space with his stapler. Sorry. I know most people view it the same way. This is not to say that Lehrer isn't a great guy. He is.

I'm glad they brought up the Big Bird thing. I cheered out loud when Romney said that. Of course here they focus on how miniscule the amount of money is compared to the universe at large and all that. That is the usual sand in the eyes kicked up when this topic is raised. The point is that both PBS and NPR are extremely biased towards the left. Especially NPR and especially this show. Only the most deluded or dishonest of the ovine kind would deny it. So, a little empathy and honesty is required to understand that it is not the $$. It is the fact that a taxpayer financed nationwide network exists to promulgate a specific political point of view. Those with empathy will be able to grasp how unacceptable this is by imagining the tables turned. Wouldn't it be all the more wonderful to exist without taxpayer financing and be able to say and do whatever. There was a time when public radio was mostly music and nobody cared of some taxpayer $ was used. Those days are gone and so should the subsidy or the direct injection of real balance. Otherwise Romney and the Republicans should make it job #1 to stop it.

If this were a Lincoln-Douglas style debate, I would agree, but it wasn't. Lehrer may have done something many people liked, but if so, he did it accidentally. For a 90-minute debate that's supposed to cover x number of questions, the moderator has to maintain control; participants must make their best points succinctly under the rules. That didn't happen because Lehrer never had control at all. If he had, I think Obama would have done EVEN WORSE. I thought he did an awful job, considering the criteria of the debate, and, as I said yesterday, I don't think we have to worry about LOWV ever using him again.

What?! Mitt's going after Big Bird!? That settles it! I'm voting for Obama!

Lehrer is 78. While he is younger than Diane Rehm, back in 08, when he was 74, he already knew his limitations and had sworn off moderating any more debates after that one. Since he didn't want to do this Presidential debate, he sure isn't going to do one at age 82.

Come on, the guy is 78 years old. Diane Rehm is 80 and gets steamrolled by David Corn whenever he is on and she can actually cut his mic, but never does.

But at the moment that Susan Rice, nearly three weeks ago, three Sundays ago, the American ambassador to the United Nations, came out on the Sunday TV shows and said, we have no evidence that any of this was preplanned. That the sort of -- her argument was it began as a protest because of the film and then grew into something bigger and then it was exploited basically by these other elements.

That didn't quite sound right to anybody even at the moment. I remember she was on "Face the Nation" and John, right, and John McCain was on at the time and I happened to be on that week and McCain said to me, you know, not many people bring an RPG, a rocket propelled grenade, to a demonstration. Well, in Libya, some people do bring RPG's to a demonstration, but the overall point was that this group came pretty well armed and knew exactly where both American sites were, Both the American consult and then this..."

Well, as usual, Sanger...

A Witness reported on the BBC that the Protesters were unarmed and when the Embassy opened fire, they went home and got their guns.

Furthermore, another Witness inspected the Building and said he saw lots of bullet holes, but no evidence of RPG or Mortar damage.

Today (Friday), Diane and Tumulty agreed that the President was off his form because he is so unaccustomed to disagreement and was being pettish.

Then yesterday, Diane and her other Right-Wing Girlfriend, Susan Page said the same thing. Wow, surely the most abused President in my lifetime!!!

But the explanation was quite simple, the President was experiencing what is called Chagrin or Dismay and is a result of the usual dirty Debate tactics and Pre Election attacks from the Bush/CIA/Mossad/FBI/NeoCon/GOP/Jew Media/Military/NRA/Hoover Institution/NPR/Bloomberg News/MI5-MI6 Kabal.

Started off with the standard Right-wing tactic of the Whoppers that can't be rebutted live, then of talking over the Democrat and interruptions of the Moderator. Like the DRShow, the snarling or unctious Righties get to complete their Spiels with out interruption while the Libs are interrupted constantly.

Then for all the Republican Vote Hysteria, a Firm paid by the GOP has been caught in serious Voter Fraud and was formerly accused of destroying Democrat Forms they had been paid to Register.

That plus the Letters with false Voting Dates and Places sent to Minority Voters. Plus hanging around Polling Places challenging Voters to stall the process and deprive Minorities and others of the opportunity to Vote.

Lists of Voters falsely named as Felons.

Falsely accused of Covering up Fast and Furious. Depriving the Benghazi Ambassador of Security.

And so forth, like they have done to ruin every Democrat President or Candidate since Roosevelt.

Not even The Onion could come up with such a hilariously satirical endless Boogie Man checklist. Congratulations!

BTW: Al Gore just attributed President Obama's poor performance to Denver's altitude. Like every problem under the Sun, Gore blames the climate.

Phil,
I read this diatribe too and couldn't even be bothered to respond. mchaun has jumped the shark and gone off the deep end. Seriously. I've never heard such psychotic, inchoherent ramblings - not even from Pancake Rankin.

Wow!!

This from the AH who went all the way back to Aldrich Ames to blame for the outing of Mrs. Wilson!!!!

Then he tops it off by claiming that Fitzgerald de facto exonerated everybody involved by saying that no Laws were broken- totally false on its face. The same Fitzgerald that got the miserable murdering DEA Rat provocateur Headley out of Pakistan and India where he should have been hanged.

The same Fitzgerald who with Judges Sand and Mucasey sprung Ali Mohamed, found guilty of the Embassy Bombings, who is sitting on his A_s in California, living the High Life on the Taxpayer's Tab.

The same Fitzgerald who failed to get a single prosecution of Chicago cops for torturing Suspects (including Capital cases) into confessions!!!
