Update On The Killing Of U.S. Diplomats In Benghazi And The Attack In Cairo
Turmoil in the Arab world spread to Yemen today as hundreds of protesters stormed the U.S. embassy there. The action comes two days after the American ambassador was killed in Libya and crowds attacked the u-s embassy compound in Cairo. The chaos has been linked to a provocative video that maligns the prophet Mohammed. But u-s officials say attackers at the Benghazi consulate seemed organized and well trained, raising questions about whether there was some level of advance planning. And reaction to the volatile events in Egypt and Libya are spilling over into the u-s presidential race. Diane and guests discuss the turmoil in the Arab world.

I agree, however...this MAY have been used as a catalyst for a larger mission, that being to create a more massive uprising among the general Muslem population punctuated with several well-planned and executed (no pun intended) al-Qaeda funded/sanctioned attacks, like the one at our embassy in Libya. Also, even the name “Sam Bacile” seems to be a play-on-words of 'Uncle Sam' and 'imbecile'...and I am NOT a conspiracy nut. If this is so, it could be used later, after the ploy is exposed, to rub our collective noses in it. Not entirely beyond the realm of possibility, is it?
I have not seen anyone (or any agency) considering the possibility that this (the 'movie') may actually be an attack perpetrated by Islamic extremists to achieve exactly the effect that is currently occuring (ie: an extreme reaction from ALL those involved). It would not be impossible that THEY (Islamic extremists) may themselves profane the name of Muhammad for what they may perceive as "he greater good". Nor am I willing to rule out the possibility of official Israeli instigation for the same reasons.

"Showing your weapons" is not bullying. Pushing someone down and taking their lunch money is bullying. If you want to argue that's what happened in Iraq, fine. But I believe that Afghanistan now understands that were another attack against us launched from their soil, there will be hell to pay. That is peace through strength. That is keeping your citizens safe by putting the world on notice of what happens to those who attack the U.S. That's different than bullying and the two should not be conflated.
However, peace through strength also requires that you be willing to identify and follow through against those who attack you. I'm afraid that the deaths of the Ambassador and his comrades are going to go unrecompensed. And that should never happen.

I can understand that. Where I have a problem is going on the offense prematurely. From what I've been hearing in the reports, and mainly from Republicans, there appears to be criticism of the President because he won't go on an attack. I see this mainly with the situation with Iran. Libya is a new forming democracy, and my fear is that the country will be invaded to get a few people and more people will needlessly lose their lives. While I understand that this is a part of war, we don't want to start a war prematurely.
"I'm afraid that the deaths of the Ambassador and his comrades are going to go unrecompensed. "
I don't think that will happen. Only time will tell.
Think outside the box, people...this bad movie trailer may well be the initial 'wedge' of a well-planned terrorist attack by parties as yet unknown, but almost certainly not domestic. If it is, it seems to be working so far in that it is provoking an extreme reaction by political factions here and religious zealots EVERYWHERE!!!
You clearly deserve Romney as our President! I only hope that the draft is brought back for your benefit.

NOBODY deserves Romney...and as one who was drafted way back when, NOBODY deserves to be drafted, although, if there were a draft there would probably be a more active anti-war movement. Just speaking "truth-to-(fill in your own blank*)" *power/stupid/etc.

Mitt Romney at least had the guts to answer any and all questions from the main stream media who attacked him but not the Islamic Terrorists who murdered 4 US Servicemen on US soil. Deflecting to who the real criminals are to Romney and the author of a religious spoof is outragious. It is equal to giving these murderers a pass. Obama made a statement then walked away from the press corps in order to attend a fund raiser in Las Vegas while the 4 murdered American's families mourn. We now find out that the main stream media plotted in the questions to Romney; and then have the gall to call themselves 'news' broadcasters. By pandering and bowing Obama has made the US the laughing stock of the world. Murdering Islamic Terrorists in Libya know that there will be no reprisal for their actions and our weakness has spurred others to now do the same. While Obama has had time for Jay-Z, Beyonce, Letterman and funraiser after fundraiser he hasn't taken the time for daily national securtiy briefings. We also know now that attacks were imminent. By releasing the statement the State Department did we are inviting more attacks. And they know Obama will do nothing.

Yes! America is a great country and we DO deserve Romney as our President!
Look, truevoice. This is what you wrote, word for word ...
"Look towards Israel for all of this!

It’s very telling how quickly Romney responded – Netanyahu is pulling the strings here!

Do you have a shred ... one LITTLE shred of evidence for anything you wrote?! If so, bring it. Except you don't. This is nothing more than propaganda, inuendo, and BS and you are off your rocker ... but I mean that in a GOOD way.
Diane, please. You aren't sure whether it was connected to 9/11? They were chanting "We are Osama".
Admit it. The "Arab Spring" which the left mindlessly celebrated has enabled America's worst enemies. Obama's foreign policy is all over the map. He escalated in Afghanistan and empowered our enemies elsewhere.
Bring the troops home, close the embassies and when we are attacked, don't apoligize - obliterate them.

I wish that news reports would routinely mention (instead of routinely omitting) that Libyan security personnel died trying to defend the US consulate. I understand that as many as ten Libyan guards were killed, but we only hear about the four Americans.
Omitting mention of the Libyan fatalities encourages the mistaken belief that all Muslims are anti-American and that the Arab spring has been an utter failure.

The BBC is suggesting that the Americans may have opened fire first and one Eye Witness says that after the Americans opened fire, the Protestors, "Went home and got their weapons" implying that the protestors were unarmed.
This would be an exact analogy to our interpretation of the Syrian uprising which claimed that the Protestors only took up Arms after being attacked first.
I suppose that cuts both ways?

Elroy, we have an "organizer", not a "leader". What did you expect?
One of the great Justices in American jurisprudence noted that freedom of speech is not an absolute right, but subject to common-sense restrictions to preserve public order and the rights of others.
You may NOT shout "fire" in a crowded theatre; similarly, you should not be permitted to shout "ready...aim..." in a theatrical setting. In arguing FOR that privilege, Mr. Romney paints a very scarey picture of U.S. Exceptionalism should his become the finger on the trigger of American foreign policy.
Rant on Romney boys and girls, I couldn’t possibly even try to compete with your ignorance – that’s your true calling - you win that one hands down!!!
After challenging truevoice to show one shred of evidence for the following:
"Look towards Israel for all of this!
Production and launch of the film, attack on the embassy in Libya all in the attempt to marginalize president Obama get Romney elected and go to war with Iran!!!
It’s very telling how quickly Romney responded – Netanyahu is pulling the strings here!

the response we get is ...
"Rant on Romney boys and girls, I couldn’t possibly even try to compete with your ignorance – that’s your true calling - you win that one hands down!!!"
So ... what you are saying is, you have no evidence. We're all ears, truevoice. Let's hear it!
@mcv
We can certainly condemn the film, however there is no grounds to prosecute. We still have freedom of speech in this country and, while there are some special exceptions(classified material, etc.), inciting rage, and even lying are not among them. The best way handle films like this is to ignore them, and they will fade into oblivion. But there are allot of factors at play here including a culture clash and possibly some opportunism.
Once again, Congressman Ron Paul's warnings about "blowback" and instability in the Middle East have come true. When are we going to learn to get our citizens out these countries, to stop meddling in the domestic affairs of sovereign countries, and start following the US Constitution?
Please stop saying "it was a small group". The governments/police of these countries were complicit in the attacks - they stood by and did nothing.
The episode today is exceptionally VILE. One of the guests implies Newt Gingrich is somehow involved in the making of this film. Then they call for the film maker to be charged with a hate crime. NOT ONE guest stood up for freedom of speech. DISGUSTING.
Clifford: Let's see here.... as I recall in the latter part of William Jefferson Clinton's term in office (amid the Monica scandal) 2 of our American embasies were attacked as well as the USS Cole and the administration did what??? NOTHING... and what happened???? 9/11... Sorry but I'm tired of sitting here and taking it every time someone finds a sorry excuse to kill americans or launch an act of war on our country. They will do it in the name of religion.... they will do it in the name of anything they want to... they are going to find any excuse they can. What part of Jihad do you not understand?
Romney's comments premature??? No I think they are long over-due. You and the rest of your pathetic Obama apologists can roll over if you want to but I think I would rather die free and fighting than weak and whining. LET"S ROLL....
ecgberht said to edward1 "I believe the "Republicans are Racists" topic is usually discussed on Tuesdays" So I'm not the only one who notices the bias on this show???? Well said ecgberht!!! Most days Diane's shows consist of how many lefties can I get in the the same room to "bash the right" I'd just once like to hear a show with guests that actually represent a cross section of our political landscape and country instead of purposely stacking the mindset deck. Assembling a cadre of guests who will only agree with what you say and believe is not discussing a topic, it's a group whining session...
I am outraged that an organization with $5 million to financed a bad movie has such influence on the Presidential election. The anniversary of 9/11, the fact that Netanyahu chose to pick a fight with Obama then, and for a movie made months prior would come to the attention of a group with guns that day may be a coincidence. Or not. If you spent $5 million, would you have a plan how to use it? We may never know if this was a Mossad operation unless someone inside writes a book as Victor Ostrovsky did in "The Other Side of Deception" detailing how the Mossad manipulated President Reagan into attacking Lybia.

Why do our leaders say " we do not like the video, however, we do not censer in this country" and just be done with it?
It seems to me that the US is always saying "we are sorry" about everything. We did not ask for the Marines to get bombed years ago, we did not ask for the USS Cole to get bombed, we did not ask for 9-11 and around 3,000 people getting killed, hurt. We did not ask for Japan to Bomb us. And yet, it seems like we are always saying "we are sorry for...
".
To quote General Sherman, " War is Hell " we seem to have forgotten that is this day and age where we do not want to step on any toes, offend anyone, everyone has rights. Where are the Archey Bunkers of today?? We need more of them.
I think it is time for this nation of ours to stand up. Say "sorry you do not like it, but deal with it". If you kell our people, we will go after you. If you put out death threats and kill, you will be held to the law. Tell some of them countries to deal with it and where to put it. Not say " we are sorry, we offended you" I know that you did not mean to fly airplanes into the US and kill 3,000 people, we know you did not mean to kill the US Marines, the sailors on the Cole.
One of your guests said " If the US pulls out of the contries and just leave, they will go back to the way they were. But, our people keep getting killed. I think we should pull out, stop sending aid, millions of dollars in support. Pull everyone out. If they want to go back to how they were, let them.
The people of the countries need to take a stance and say We are not going to take it anymore, and stand up. The Italians did it, they found the leader, hung him upsidedown, naked in the square.
If they attack the US again. I think we need to follow General Shermon, go in, ask if they surrender, if they do, leave that city alone. If not, burn them to the ground and move on. It worked in the Civil War.
War is hell, something we have forgotten. We do not have to say sorry everytime a US solder pees on on dead bodies. We should not have to worry about regilous books getting burned in the trash. How many of those books got burned in 9-11 when the towers came down? None of them said "OH, we burned our own regilous books". But, when the US does it, major out cry.
We need back bone and none seems to be there now days.
