Friday News Roundup Video

The panel discussed what it meant to have actor and director Clint Eastwood deliver a speech at the Republican National Convention. James Fallows, national correspondent for The Atlantic, called it a "surreal monologue." George Washington University professor Steve Roberts said Eastwood's speech was borderline vulgar and changed the tone of the convention. The Wall Street Journal's Laura Meckler said the most remarkable part was that the speech came on during primetime television.

2) In the off-year election of 2002, Republicans gained more seats. The first time in decades a sitting President had benefited from his first two years in that way. Unfortunately for Republicans, their leadership squandered the opportunity for fiscal sanity and continued to spend. They paid the price in 2006.
3) And I will probably vote for a Democrat for Governor this year, but I join Marcus in questioning how you can dismiss Governor Romney out of hand based, seemingly, on the false impression given by Democrats and MSM. The man has been a success in business, in running a large organization (Olympics), and as Governor. Everything known about him says he is a decent and honorable guy in addition to being highly skilled. Compared to the results of the incumbent, he deserves a chance, IMHO.

There is, Gary Johnson.

Anyone who uses the term "teabagger" is an open book, nothing more really needs to be said. I don't think anyone is offended by it's use in any serious way, but there is no mistake as to what the values are of the person using it.

I just heard an interesting factoid on the radio, there are more Hispanic republican politicians in office than democrats.

While talking about the American economy one of those regulations that Republicans want to do away with is the minimum wage and reduce the living standard of the American worker even further.

On top of the Reagan/Gingrich screwing of the CPI/COLA with its up to 5 percent understatement of the Cost of Living compounded for 30 Years that is driving Living Standards for Working Americans and Social Security Annuitants into the ground.

Apparently you were not paying attention to news stories or this thread. Here it is again just for you.

"White House spokesman Jay Carney declined Friday to repudiate an independent ad that ties Mitt Romney to the cancer death of a laid-off steelworker's wife, as the controversy over that misleading commercial dragged into another day."

"The Romney campaign has seized on missteps by Obama campaign aides who at first claimed not to know the details of former steelworker Joe Soptic—only to have to reverse course when it emerged that Soptic's tale played a key role in a campaign conference call with reporters. That led Romney aides to accuse their Democratic counterparts of lying about the campaign's connections to the story."

Exactly. And the answer is zero. billtmore's implication, and presumably yours, is that Daddy staked him. That's false. If you have evidence to the contrary, bring it.

So Latinos in particular should be Republicans because they have a strong work ethic, as opposed to supporters of the Democrats and/or Obama. Who are those supporters who don't have a strong work ethic and are for Obama? The welfare queens, i.e. African Americans.

The left is truly scared their going to lose this election so it's kind of nice to see the liberals in the media make such fools of themselves because they have so obviously lost control of their emotions. There seems to be a glimmer of hope we can once and for all end this media bias debate and stick the fork in and say yes the media as a whole are biased in favor of liberal democrats. What I find troubling is despite the fact that this president is so obviously unqualified and destructive to the country that so very few of them seem willing to jump ship. One thing about democrats they definitely have the herd mentality, these raging bulls are ready at the drop of a hat to charge off the cliff in mass. We have to figure out a way to coordinate this without the rest of us being involved. With a little luck they just might do it next week at the democrat national convention.

I can't help but get a kick out of how some commenters will criticize those who are taking one side or the other in a controversy, when they themselves are taking one side or the other in a controversy.

Exactly the same sort of thing that took place in the mid-19th century and led to the Civil War.

How much longer before the next one???

Thank You Diane for pointing out that more white people collect welfare than blacks or Hispanics. For years Democrats have been getting away with using this as a race issue. This notion that Republicans won't get enough Latino votes is also overblown. Most of the working Latinos are conservative in their beliefs.

"I was in favor of the bank bailouts back in 2008. I bought the Paulsen line that without them we would collapse financially. I was wrong. FDIC and orderly bankruptcies should have been allowed to happen. I no longer accept the notion of too big to fail. And that includes the auto companies.
"unlike the auto companies, AIG did not pay the taxpayers back "
That is a common misconception. The auto companies have not "paid the taxpayers back".
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/300075/obama-and-gm-cook-books-jo...
If you loaned your brother-in-law $100 and he paid you back a fraction ... and then you essentially forgave the rest, would you say he had "paid you back"?"
No disrespect, but the National Review is a conservative source, so they're going to by biased against Obama. The point is, the auto industry--while yes, has paid a fraction of what was owed, has paid most of what was borrowed back. AIG has paid back nothing. Rather, they continue to live the lavish lifestyle that got them into trouble in the first place.
