The panel discussed the implications of presumptive Republican candidate Mitt Romney's financial history, including his offshore bank accounts, reluctance to release more tax returns and tenure at Bain Capital. David Chalian, Washington bureau chief for Yahoo! News, said the issue of tax returns will be Romney's "Achilles' heel" in the election. Naftali Bendavid, national correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, said the fact that Romney refuses to release his tax records means that questions will linger. "It's not the ordinary political strategy," Bendavid added.

I thought it ironic that Mitt Romney goes to the NAACP gives a speech treating the members as equals, giving them the same agenda talking points that he does to white audiences, shows them respect by not pandering to them and afterwards gets condemned by the left as using it as a cynical ploy to get white votes. It's not even over with that, he was further condemned for not treating them as permanent victims, how can race relations ever evolve and improve if both sides treat black people as incompetent children? Logic dictates that the democratic party prospers off the perceived "permanent victim" status of democrat black voters and therefore seeks to prevent any improvement in their present circumstance with honest talk.

I thought candidate Romney presented himself well, handled what appeared to be a hostile audience with calm and resolve, and in my opinion this bodes well for a potential leader to represent all the people instead of the angry divisiveness we have now that seems to have everyone at each others throats.

I thought it ironic Mitt Romney went to a NAACP gathering and he used the "OBAMACARE" slur. Obamacare was created to berate the Affordable Care Act by T-Party think tanks. It`s been the T-Party`s M.O. to de-legitimize Pres.Obama every single day, from day one. The 'Dog Whistle' racist remarks we`ve come to recognize and understand. Then Mr.Romney goes on Fox News and calls blacks the people who want something for nothing from government. Hey Mitt ! We all want something from government. I want them to stop the "Job Creators" from sending every American job to China. Mitt wants the government to give him tax exempt and royalty status, for sending our jobs to China.

I think this is what your referring too, I see nothing wrong with it in light of a 16 trillion dollar national debt and trillion $ plus annual deficits.

"a fundraiser in Hamilton, Montana.Romney told his donors of the NAACP convention attendees, "Remind them of this: if they want more stuff from government, tell them to go vote for the other guy -- more free stuff. But don't forget, nothing is really free."

Apparently the facts were not good enough for you to make your point so you twisted them into something very different. And by the way Romney told the NAACP pretty much the same thing by saying.

“I’m going to eliminate every non-essential, expensive program I can find, that includes Obamacare"

"Obamacare" a slur?

"Happy birthday, Obamacare," Jim Messina, the president's campaign manager, wrote in an email to supporters last week to note the anniversary of the reform becoming law"

The Penn State cover up is exactly what you get with the "Privatization of America". The T-Party`s objective to deny citizens their rights and liberties,in favor or protecting Corporations/Institutions.Non-Disclosure and Non-Compete and legalese mumbo jumbo is what citizens get,in place of fairness and justice. It`s right out there flapping in the breeze. It is sick and demented. You continue to endorse this behavior by ignoring it. We now send the 'Whistleblowers' to jail and not the criminals.

There's some interesting talk going around, Condoleezza Rice as Romney's VP, I say bravo! An admirable women that has more real world experience than the entire democratic presidential ticket.

July 12, 2012 - 11:01 pm

"Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US", President's Daily Brief warning of terrorism threats from Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda 36 days before the September 11, 2001 attacks.

I guess dropping the ball on that could be construed as "real world experience".

Mitt Romney's NAACP Pitch falls flat:

Condi Rice is an accomplished, well spoken person. She is well educated and a talented pianist.

Unfortunately, she kept playing that "Imminent Mushroom Cloud" tune that Cheney and The NeoCons dreamed up. Not my kind of ballad.

July 13, 2012 - 6:58 am

So Romney gets points for political courage for telling the NAACP he would repeal Obama care. Nonsense - he was using the occasion to confirm to his base what it wants to know.

As James Carville indicated, political courage would have been telling his base directly something it did not want to know, like going to the NRA and saying he would reinstate the assault weapons ban.

and then there's this.

According to Hilary Shelton, Mitt brought people with him who are not NAACP members. They were there to applaud and support him. Afterward he met with them, not NAACP members. He brought his own fan club.

July 13, 2012 - 9:40 am

Well stated - Kudos!

July 13, 2012 - 9:42 am

Hilary Shelton claimed NAACP is a "non partisan organization" The man is as dishonest as they come.

The NAACP are tax cheats!

"Most people with an IQ above 100 know that the National Association for the Advancement of Some Colored People is an arm of the Democratic Party. The only people who are blinded to that fact are people who are crazy enough to still support the NAACP. The NAACP is considered a non profit organization. Because they are "called" a non profit, the get to enjoy the benefits of being tax exempt. There is an IRS provision that non profits must follow. A tax exempt organization must be "non political"."

Patsy Nomore wrote:

And your point? Penn State is going to pay for this for the next 2 or 3 DECADES at least. This just confirms the old principle that the coverup is always worse than the crime.
Your attempt to link the Penn State scandal and coverup with the Tea Party is disgusting, Patsy and the worst part is, in your heart of hearts you know it is dishonest.

July 13, 2012 - 10:06 am

Why are you surprised that the NAACP does not welcome him. they know that whatever he says is ddsigned to keep them quiet. the real Repubicanism has been stedily brewing since Nixo's southern strategy This party is light years from the traditions opf Lincoln Under such circumstances, I thought his listeners were amazingly polite.

July 13, 2012 - 10:09 am

Well said!

July 13, 2012 - 10:10 am

Anyone who saw Hilary Shelton on O'Reilly last night knows he is a bloviator and O'Reilly called him on it more than once. When you have to go on a show like that and can't answer simple questions but must filibuster instead, it's a sign your argument is weak.
nohoplophobe, your post is right on. Southern Democrats held blacks as slaves prior to the civil war. They fought against the Civil Rights act in the 60s and voted in a large block against it. Now the Democratic Party and their spokes people, Sharpton and Jackson, continue to be diligent in their efforts to keep black people in America enslaved to government. The players change, the song remains the same; j"blacks are victims of whites and cannot achieve on their own - therefore, we will tell you how to vote and what to think". More than 150 years later, it's the same Plantation mentality.

The size of Paterno's and Sandusky's noses are noteworthy, maybe because of dishonesty?

I wonder if Diane and her panelists noses are growing as we listen, could a broadcast possibly be more biased?

July 13, 2012 - 10:25 am

I don't think Romney went to the NAACP for any other reason than to pander to the very Right of his party and hope to get some Independents...I don't think it shows "he will speak his mind regardless of the audience" as he claimed on FOX TV...if that were the case then he would have given a similar speech to the Hispanic conference he spoke to a few weeks ago...He did NOT tell them he would repeal "Obamacare" He never used that term...His intent at the NAACP was to stoke boos so he could show Independents the bias of the African American community. It was a poorly designed set up and I don't think it worked.

He ABSOLUTELY used the term - the speech is all over YouTube.

Dennis Kucinich admits that taxing the wealthy at 39.6% will garner the federal government enough money to last 8 1/2 days. This is Kucinich's most lucid observation considering he brags about seeing UFOs.

The sickening fact that Penn State raised the second highest annual amount (nearly $209 million) in 2011/12 illustrates perfectly that PSU supporters do not think anything is wrong with the Sandusky/Paterno actions. Based on this total lack of embarrassment and regret, I believe there should be a long-term ban on football at Penn State; their football culture is clearly out of control.

July 13, 2012 - 10:41 am

I suspect if Joe Paterno had been abusive to animals he would have been exposed and sacked immediately. Too often our children are not protected from preditors, I.e. like the Catholic hierarchy's dispicable actions.

July 13, 2012 - 10:41 am

The top officials at Penn State didn't simply cover up the initial reports on Sandusky back in 1998 and 2001. When they declined from even taking away Sandusky's keys or forbid him from using campus facilities, they became accessories to his crimes. They aided and abetted the rape of children. Like the Catholic monsignor who was recently convicted for covering up abuse by priests, they should go to jail and PSU as an institution should pay a heavy price for its lack of oversight.

I keep hearing people talk about the amount of money being donated to the Obama and Romney campaigns - as if my vote is somehow for sale. Most of the people I know have already decided who they're going to vote for, and NO amount of money spent on advertising is going to change that. Do they really think they can buy votes?

Also, why is there no discussion of the 3rd parties - the Green Party, Justice Party, Libertarian Party and others all have candidates too. Don't people have a right to at least know who they are?

July 13, 2012 - 10:44 am

Mr. BenDavid says that the money brought in my football programs is so vital to a college finances....
About 8 or 10 years ago, an economics professor from I believe Indiana University stated on a PBS show that the amount of help these programs contributed to college revenue was exaggerated. (He was most unpopular for his views, but the sounded reasonable) In a future show, could you "follow the money" and get information on the realities of sports programs in colleges and the real truth about the money in 2012? Are they really critical to the operation of those colleges? Does it also run up college expenses? What would happen if the expensive sports programs were eliminated?

Some "slur" when POTUS Obama's chief political advisor encourages the use of the term.

"On March 23. the Obama campaign sent out this email from top Obama political strategist David Axelrod:

"I like Obamacare.
"I'm proud of it — and you should be, too.
"Here's why: Because it works.
"So if you're with me, say it: 'I like Obamacare...' "

I am very concerned about the state of our nation. Business leaders have shown that with a little luck and some smarts it is easy to make a lot of money in this country. If you have top tier connections it is even easier to make a lot of money. Being a single bottom liner, especially a short sighted one as many of our business elite are, is not a recipe for good governance. I will never vote for a business person for public office unless they articulate a good understanding that there is more to business than the single bottom line and long term planning is more important that short term gains. In fact the one segments of society I would like to see in high office are scientists. They understand complex systems, understand that simplistic approaches often are elusive, and there are often unknown relationships among many factors that affect outcomes. Unfortunately most of the scientists I know are happy in their studies and the thought of a grueling campaign is a nightmare to them.

Somehow your guests blew past the question of Mitt Romney's Mormon faith position on Black people. Have we so quickly forgotten the torrent of commentary and investigation of Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright and his connection with Senator Obama? I find it ironic that now religion has to be carefully handled. Double standard?

July 13, 2012 - 10:55 am

Coach Paterno was an employee of a university. He followed the rules and reported the abuse up the food chain. At my own university, you would be fired if you did not follow the corporate chain of command. The executives are supposed to be the ones to report any crime to the authorities. We all like rules, Paterno followed them. Go after the executives.
