A judge declared a mistrial on five counts in former Sen. John Edwards' corruption case. National Journal congressional correspondent Major Garrett called the jury "nothing if not diligent." He said it's likely the government will accept the outcome and not try Edwards in court again. Fox News political analyst Juan Williams said Edwards was supposed to be the future John F. Kennedy of the Democratic Party, but now "is so laden with baggage."

If American companies hire 69,000 workers, and governments lay off 500,000,how can we ever escape this hole?

Unlike Ohio Scott Walkers initiatives were given time to show results and they have paid off big time, no school teacher layoffs where they took advantage of act 10 the only layoffs occurred where the schools allowed themselves to be locked into union contracts. Property taxes dropped for the first time in 14 years and now there is a projected budget surplus. Ohio was duped by fear tactics from public labor unions to reject necessary austerity, now they face huge deficits that can only be remedied with increased taxes and layoffs.

"Cash-strapped state and local governments will soon shed up to 110,000 jobs, many of those belonging to teachers.

In a budget-cutting move likely to be echoed around the country, Milwaukee Public Schools said Wednesday it will lay off 519 staff members -- including 354 teachers -- because of $84 million in state cuts and the system's efforts to control costs"......CNN

It seems layoffs are as rampant in Wisconsin and they are in T-Party controlled Ohio.

Wrong! and a lie. Show one shred of evidence layoffs in WI. are rampant.
I live there! Ohio rejected sensible solutions and are now reaping the whirlwind of democrat/public union deception.

For once I am glad to hear a Faux news analyst speak to the fraud of so called voter fraud laws.
The republicans have a four point plan to achieve a permanent majority.
1. Remove all campaign fund raising limitations especially on corporations since they primarily support republicans. Done Citizens United.
2. Suppress democratic leaning voters with voter id laws, limitations on voter registration, limiting access by manipulating polling places, times and access, limitations that suppress student voters, minorities, and elderly. This is happening in all republican dominated states.
3. Limit the earning capacity of democratic supporting institutions such as unions.
4. Gerrymander.

Walker is the epitome of the right wing take over in this country. Acting like he has a mandate but supported mainly by outside donors, one must consider how will these people benefit from these changes. The Koch’s big supporters based in Kansas City may have business in Wisconsin but the real aim is to weaken democrats through labor, privatize and profitize education, infrastructure and health care, and reduce regulations and taxes. I wonder how the citizens of Wisconsin will react when they experience that education is not improved, and everything must be paid for out of pocket. They better have a big improvement in well paying jobs to support living in their lassiez faire state. Wisconsin, Ohio (as a previous poster here from Ohio noted), and others will soon experience the full force of the hegemony of big business instead of so called big government. Citizens beware, do not take your concerns to your local elected officials, they are not there to serve you.
For 30 years we have lived on the propaganda that government is bad and can do no right without even questioning this assertion. This propaganda was brought to you in part by the Kock supported CATO and other think tanks. It is time to question this assertion and look at the facts. While I am disappointed with President Obama I totally reject the ideology of the right considering the current economic crisis that was brought to you by the hegemony of business and not government. But conservative historians are very quick to rewrite history.

One could admire the plausible deny-ability Gov.Walkers enjoys. He didn`t send out the layoff notices, city and school boards did. All Gov.Walker did was to cut the funding to those districts. My Ohio T-Party crook did the same thing.John the "Flim Flam Man" Kasich gave the 1%`ers the 'Estate Tax' tax break they`ve wanted for decades. What did citizens get? Job cuts, job cuts, and job more cuts. Higher taxes.Higher prices, especially utilities. Lower wages.More grief, worry and heartache.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, March 8, 2012

Wisconsin’s preliminary January unemployment rate of 6.9 percent is now the lowest it has been since
December of 2008, and it remains well below the national rate,” Secretary Newson said. “In addition, the
preliminary monthly job estimates show growth across most industry sectors.”

The Department of Workforce Development released figures a month ahead of schedule showing some 23,000 new jobs created in the state during 2011. The figure is based on numbers reported from 160,000 employers across the state.

can you explain why Ron Paul, OB/GYN who delivered over 4,000 babies, says he is "strongly pro-life" and "an unshakable foe of abortion" helped defeat bill to eliminate Gender Based Abortions? Is this what it is to be a liberal libertarian?

WISCONSIN APRIL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECLINES TO 6.7 PERCENT
Preliminary jobs estimates continue to contradict other state economic indicators
MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today released the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics (BLS) preliminary data for April, showing Wisconsin’s unemployment rate declined to 6.7 percent
seasonally adjusted from March. Compared to a year ago, more people are working.
“Wisconsin’s unemployment rate continued its decline, dropping to a preliminary rate of 6.7 percent in April
from 6.8 percent in March and 6.9 percent the previous two months,” Secretary Reggie Newson said. “A
year ago, the rate was 7.5 percent. Meanwhile, we had more people employed and fewer unemployed in
April 2012 compared to the previous year.”

There is more to this story than straight jobs. Period. Look at a year or two from now and will Wisconsin be better off. Depends on how you define better off. Wisconsin is on its way to being a stratified society by educaiton, wages, and access not to mention race. This story is far from over and can the damage be fixed. Just tell me Arkus what the Koch's and their ilk get for their bucks, low wages, low taxes, no regulation, and access to the new markets of educaiton, prisons, highways, and so on. A sell off of public goods for private profits.

I gave you the minuscule $ amount donated by the Koch's to the walker campaign a while ago. These guys are patriots in every sense of the word and there is not one "shred" of evidence to indicate otherwise. I would be honored to call the Koch brothers my friends.

Ladyingreen, OK I get it, even if things are good and improving there bad as long as the democrats are out of power. Yea that makes a lot of sense. I am glad so many of you are reading all this because I know that you know you lost the argument.

Don't forget that America won almost every battle in Vietnam but still lost the war. One could also reasonable make the argument (and I KNOW you won't like this Arkus) that Obama's policies are the reason for the decline in unemployment as the national unemployment rate has dropped during his administration. You haven't presented any evidence that Scott Walker is anymore responsible for this decline than Obama is.

Mike Sergeant wrote: "and I KNOW you won't like this Arkus""Obama's policies are the reason for the decline in unemployment as the national unemployment rate has dropped during his administration"

I like it just fine!

Because there are less people looking for work the unemployment numbers went down, the pool of actual jobs has gone down, there are less people in jobs than when he took office. He has not created jobs he lost them.

"There were 11,891,000 manufacturing jobs in February 2012, down 661,000 since January 2009. That’s 5 percent fewer manufacturing jobs. By contrast, there were 132,697,000 total non-farm jobs in the U.S. in February 2012 — down 864,000 since January 2009. That’s a decline of a little more than one half of 1 percent."

If this is accurate, and I have nothing to dispute them, how does this prove that Scott Walker lowered the unemployment rate? It may be the unemployment statistics you posted earlier result from exactly the same phenomenon, in which case Scott Walker would be a job destroyer not a job creator as I think you are asserting.

The answer to this is in the above information don't waste my time, as for Walker's direct impact, business and government relations in Wisconsin are much better. The sky is blue and I know it by looking at it. Your going down silly street, good day sir.

The Investing-class vs. The Workers
The Job-creators vs The Job-doers (or are they the "Wealth-creators?)

In this country if you add together all the taxes at the federal, state, and local level, a single minimum wage worker paid 37% total taxes on her $14,500 annual salary (leaving her $9600 for one year of full-time work, and no she does not qualify for food stamps or the earned income tax credit). Meanwhile, billionaire Warren Buffett pays 11% total (federal, state, local, corporate) taxes on $8 billion annual investment gains.

Our system of taxes if viewed across all levels of government, is regressive. It favors the very rich, the self-proclaimed, so-called "job-creators) while it punishes the middle-class, the working poor, "the job-does," the "wealth-creators."

The tax cuts for the rich were supposed to encourage investment and strengthen the economy. Instead, average GDP growth during the 30 years since the tax-cuts-for-the-rich began has dropped 25% compared to the 30 prior years.

How do tax cuts for wealthy investors produce worse growth? Here is the main way: The favored tax treatment for investments and the wealth concentration that resulted leads to the demand for investments exceeding the supply of worthy investments ... Any attempt at regulation is overwhelmed by "supply and demand" market forces (Econ 101) ... The price of investments MUST rise "artificially" and unsustainably ... Investment bubble ... Burst bubble ... Recession ... Every 6-8 years all but the wealthiest are at risk of losing their jobs, their homes, their opportunity to educate their kids, and their retirement savings ... and the government loses more tax revenue.

For details, spreadsheets, and a proposal that would make the economy flourish for everyone, not just the wealthy ivestor-class, see my site: http://fairsharetaxes.org

Righteous indignation doesn't prove your point. I see nothing in any of the statistics that show that Scott Walker is responsible for the job creation. It may support your assertion, I cannot tell based on what you have posted.

However, if Scott Walker has created jobs, doesn't that disprove the favorite conservative tag line that "Government has never created a job"? He either created jobs through his policies or didn't. Either way one of the statements is wrong.

North Vietnam broke the Paris Peace Agreement and overran South Vietnam in 1975 two years after all American and Allied combat troops had left the country. The war was lost, but not by U.S. armed forces.

Hmm, seems to me that if you leave the fight you lost or at least didn't win.

Argument from ignorance

Argument from ignorance, also known as argumentum ad ignorantiam or "appeal to ignorance" (where "ignorance" stands for: "lack of evidence to the contrary"), is a fallacy in informal logic. It asserts that a proposition is true because it has not yet been proven false, it is "generally accepted" (or vice versa). This represents a type of false dichotomy in that it excludes a third option, which is that there is insufficient investigation and therefore insufficient information to prove the proposition satisfactorily to be either true or false. Nor does it allow the admission that the choices may in fact not be two (true or false), but may be as many as four, (1) true, (2) false, (3) unknown between true or false, and (4) being unknowable (among the first three).[1] In debates, appeals to ignorance are sometimes used to shift the burden of proof.
