While POTUS Obama's favorite presidents may be Republicans, as he seems to name drop Lincoln and Reagan at any political function, would it be too much to ask him to at least quote them accurately?
During his State of the Union speech POTUSt Obama wrongly paraphrased Abraham Lincoln:
"I'm a Democrat. But I believe what Republican Abraham Lincoln believed: That Government should do for people only what they cannot do better by themselves, and no more."
Then in Ohio, on April 12, POTUS Obama again mischarterized Lincoln's sentiments:
"I also agree with our first Republican president, a guy named Abraham Lincoln, who said that "through government, we should be able to do together what we can't do as well on our own."
-------------------------------------
What POTUS Lincoln actually said:
"The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves in their separate and individual capacities."
"In all that the people individually do as well for themselves, government ought not to interfere.”"
---------------------------------------
POTUS Lincoln was comfortable with the government spending money on “infrastructure,” but that’s entirely separate from questioning how much of our money the government should be spending.
I hope the panel discusses the egregious burden placed on the Post Office by a lame duck GOP congress in 2006. It is obligated to pay ahead in 10 years the next 75 year's worth of funds for retirees' health care. No other business is required to do such a thing. Obviously part of a long-term plan to soften up the Postal Service for privatizing. Small businesses, watch your rates go up when Fedex and UPS get the cream.
Would the T-Party run the U.S. government like they run State governments, given the opportunity? You bet ! And what a mess that is. More tax cuts for the wealthy, and teacher cuts. More tax cuts to Corporations, more cops laid off. Privatization of government, higher costs and higher local taxes.
WHAT A MESS...........WHAT A FAILURE..........
Since the housing sector is a drag on the entire economy, perhaps the government needs to focus its efforts in that sector. Right now, we only allow a little over a million new legal immigrants. Has anyone suggested upping that number to 1.5 or 2 million to spur housing demand?

Will the fact that the Obama administration has not held one sub prime, foreclosure fraudsters accountable be a problem for President Obama in the upcoming election? Lack of accountability?
When will the Diane Rehm show have Professor William Black on. As one of the head investigattors and litigators in the Savings and Loan scandal he has stated that during that scandal they made over 10,000 prosecutorial referrals and that over a thousand individuals were prosecuted. He has said that the OBama Dept of Justice has the means to prosecute in this latest economic debacle.
Please have him on

Why, in discussing the economy and President Obama and Romney's attacks, does the press never even glance at or mention the world economy--how can a responsible press treat the US economy as if it's in a bubble, or if it is insulated, please explain why you think it is.
Regarding the so-called Trillion Dollar Student Loan Debt ... may I point out that something like 90 percent of this debt is owned by and owed to the Federal government. Indeed, what the President ought to be preaching is "student education" e.g., taking responsibility for what they sign up for and what they consequently owe. Not that the private lenders are much better at doing the same.

Why don't they mention the fact that every word out of Obama's mouth on the campaign trail is a lie or distortion. He's on our side is he? Then why does he say the Ryan plan is cruel, if he was "on our side" wouldn't he tell us the truth that the Medicare system is headed for bankruptcy and if something is not done the system is going to collapse. He offers nothing except fear mongering
Marco Rubio's vote AGAINST renewal of the Violence Against Women Act will help him remain the darling of the TeaPublicans, but wouldn't it be a problem with sane voters if Mittens puts him on the ticket?
for heaven's sake, do you people know anything about men??????????????
please, find one who can be honest with you, or take a psychology course!!!
Apparently there are millions of Hispanic households in this country where the children are of voting age and legal by birth location, the parents and relatives are illegal immigrants. Teasing the Hispanic voters with backdoor amnesty schemes is acceptable to the democrat party. We know the democrats don't care if social programs collapse because of bankruptcy in the future and the increased burden of millions more added to the system is irrelevant to them, they want the votes now at any cost. Why is this acceptable?
via my twitter @PolicyMediation: Should 'objective' media sources refer to #SB1070 as an anti immigration law rather than anti illegal immigration law? @drshow #immigration
laffercurve;
This is the most sexist statement that I have seen if a very long time.
P.S. I'm a man and I'm being very honest with you.
I am astonished at the extreme right-wing nature of the discussion this morning.
Please advise guests and callers to read Robert Reich's book "Aftershock" to learn how we got here and why the recovery will be slow...we were in a MESS and it will take some time to claw our way out.
Secondly, Rommney is a proud member of the one percent and is only half right when he states "It is the economy, and we're not stupid. He needs to add we're not stupid enough to vote for him...
I am somewhat amazed to hear the "small business owner" claim he never puts his profits back into his business, and would rather give them to the government.
EVERY single small business owner I have known for decades and decades and decades pours almost every available dime back into his or her business to grow it and sustain it.
In view of that, I doubt that the gentleman actually WAS a "small business owner" but just a partisan hack.
I am so surprised how the several previous callers want to pay MORE taxes. I suggest that they educate themselves on why or what the taxes money is needed by our government. I point to the crises going on in Europe right now with the massive amounts of money the gov spent on services that now can no longer be funded at those levels! Do we really want to go down the same path and then later be forced to undergo the painful cuts these countries are currently undergoing? Unfortunately the simple math is not clear to everyone, not enough money into the system (ie too many not contributing) = DEBT!
libertarians r us you are one VERY confused individual. Is this right-wing show the only place you get information? I bet you dont even know what a real libertarian is...so sad the ignorance on the right in the US.
I AGREE!!!
The regulation on companies to fund their pension plans was a gw bush invention as an answer to the enron colapse and scandel with kenny boy. what it did with mine and many other companies was for the company to stop offering traditional pension plans and go to portable pension plans which didnt have the same requirements, my company, non-union, was able to make that transition but a union company may have been forced to shore up their pensions for unrealistic number of years or work harder to crush their unions.
The Bush administraion was the most trickyest, administration since Nixon
THe USPS needs a major revamp- they could look to Australia for a different biz model- more not less POs located in retail sites and shopping malls-not out of the way places, blocks away from where people actiually go. They are generally NOT closed for lunch, and the POs are one-stop-shops- they sell everything from bubble-wrap to greeting cards, gifts to cell phones and phone cards. They are effectively gift shops- everything to send a quick gift by post. You can pay nearly all your utility bills and student loans at the PO, plus cash checks, collect your pension/SS payments The mail is delivered by moped/small motorbikes, even in urban areas- not my foot. No delivery on Saturday....plenty of good ideas are out there- they just have to change and change fast!
Watching T-Party policy is a cross between 'Groundhog Day',and the '3 Stooges'. In Ohio,Bob Taft and his cronies gave his pals tax cuts, and we peons tax tax hikes. We wound up with 500,000 fewer jobs and an 8 Billion dollar deficit.
George W.Bush cut the taxes for his pals, putting every penny on the Nation`s Debt, while costing America 3 million fewer jobs on the day he left office.
Waking up every day,day after day, only to see the piano fall on our heads, over, and over, and over again.

This is a right wing show? and I'm ignorant!
Of course the discussion is right wing. Check out the guests who are usually on the DR Show. The majority is right wing.
We need to have a discussion on the illegal bailing out of GM an Chrysler and the tax payer rip off to benefit unions for political gain. GM should have gone through restructuring through bankruptcy. All is not as Obama claims, not even close.
" TARP was legislatively created specifically for the financial market's crisis, and its use of funds was mandated for the purpose of buying troubled assets from financial institutions that would fail if they could not get rid of those toxic assets. Hence TARP. There were no provisions or authorities that would allow TARP to be used to bail out GM. It would take more legislation from Congress to authorize such use."

Surely you are being sarcastic, yes? The ratio of libs to conservatives on FNR is 3 to 1. Rehm is a liberal. All the guest hosts, i.e. Page, Kay, Sesno, Roberts, Gelten, are all liberals. There are zero NPR shows hosted by a conservative.
Thank you for that insight. What this all boils down to is a lack of information about the issues facing us. If the voting public would turn off FOX broadcasts and reality shows and watch PBS/read a variety of viewpoints, we would be so much better off. Too many people are unwilling to leave their comfort zones.
The recent scandals involving the Secret Service could provide a perfect opportunity for Ron Paul. The Libertarian obstinate obstetrician said that Secret Service protection for candidates "is a form of welfare."
“You know, you’re having the taxpayers pay to take care of somebody, and I’m an ordinary citizen. I would think I should pay for my own protection, and it costs, I think, more than $50,000 a day to protect those individuals. It’s a lot of money,” Paul said."
Perhaps Romney could appoint Paul as the new director of Secret Service. The guy knows a lot about personal protection which would come in handy during encounters with members of the oldest profession.

Surely PBS' Frontline program is a comfort zone for liberals. Before it was cancelled, NOW with Bill Moyers was unabashedly a liberal spin zone. Charles Krauthammer, "Inside Washington," is one of the few bright spots on PBS. He tried in vain to point out NPR hypocrisy to Nina Totenberg.
