U.S. Economic Outlook
http://thedianerehmshow.org/shows/2012-04-10/us-economic-outlook
In a speech last night in Georgia, Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke cautioned that the U.S. economy is still far from having fully recovered from the darkest days of the financial crisis. Three and a half years since the financial crisis nearly 13 million Americans are looking for work. Although the unemployment rate dipped a bit for the month of March, the U.S. also added fewer new jobs than analysts had expected. Please join us to talk about jobs and the outlook for the U.S. economy.

In the Days of Yore, all a man needed was a gun. Always huntin' or deulin', but all a man needed to be a man in the "New World" was a weapon, the decider in a feud. Man didn't need no schoolin', no guv'mint -- especially an IRS. just a man and his weapon of choice. Did ye know? American Exceptionalism is masculine.
Does Rupert Murdock own News Corp or news max? hmmmm, whats that smell?

Heard a DRS program a few weeks back where a panel of economists all agreed on at least one thing: that there is NO EVIDENCE that tax cuts for 'job creators' (who used to be called 'the wealthy') actually created jobs. We DO know that these tax breaks have made the wealthiest Americans wealthier. If I recall my basic Macroeconomics, I think they taught me that if you reduce the average wage of your purchasing population (wages have essentially stagnated since the 70's in terms of purchasing power) then that population's standard of living will go down over time. Welcome to America in the twenty-teens. IMHO, corporate America has to decide, more or less as a group, that paying America more -yes, at the expense of their sacred Bottom Line- will eventually result in a population better able to purchase manufacturers' goods WHEREVER they're made, pay government taxes WHATEVER we decide they should be, and create a better and more stable future for themselves and their children. But as a nation, we have to call greed what it is, remember that greed is wrong and bad for us all, and that greedy people and corporations should be publicly shamed for their choices, not applauded for their greater wealth or marginally higher quarterly dividends. 'Nuff said.
Wages are down for white males, anyway... . Trickle-down slobber, better wipe that puree off your bibb, gramps... ? And when Paw's social Security check disappears (ask Ryan from Wisconsin) the rest of us will live off... . 401k income -- better get you a venture captial Trust Fund set up,eh? Taht's why we need Corporate Profits -- they ARE good citizens too... .
You must be far more clever than me, I can't understand your responses. They all read like sound bites...
Employers claim to be concerned that if they invest money in training, then employees who are beneficiaries of that training will leave to take better paying jobs that the training qualifies them for. If that happens, how different is it from the behavior of employers who leave for better opportunities? It is part of today's corporate culture to put one's own interests first.
If the employer is not willing to train the worker to do the job that the employer needs done, then who has the responsibility for the training? The taxpayer who contributes to the support of the community college that offers training programs that the taxpayer does not benefit from directly?
Employers need to understand why their trainees leave and why some businesses have high employee retainment rates. Retaining employees requires relationship building and a mindset that considers an individual as a resource with potential and capability, rather than as a possible throwaway.
I agree with Jay Elle. We've all heard that truism, 'treat others the way you want them to treat you'. But in my experience, few corporations these days treat either their employees or their customers with any degree of loyalty. If that's how these groups are treating employers in turn, isn't that the way that's supposed to work? Not all, but I think a fair percentage of corporate America needs to re-think the way they go about their business.
Regarding 1) demand based growth and hiring, and 2) training:
1) There is so much demand to produce oil, and hence a need for employees in the oil/gas/energy industry, but the industry doesn't hire fast enough; they seem to be worried about undertrained, (so, under-qualified) people from say, aerospace/automotive/other industry, and everyone is stuck in such a mild stalemate. In reality, all it takes is a few weeks of sincere training, and all will be up and running and everyone would gain! Thus, is it not the lack of demand, but is the lack of confidence of the oil industry to hire under-trained people and train them well?
2) Then, you commented on general training cost versus specific training cost and the dilemma that a company pays for the training and someone else lures the employee away. That cannot be right! -- I am taking an $1800 course (~120 hrs online plus class room course) on a nice in-depth IADC DIT certification course, and am breezing through it. Texas workforce commission pays for it through Wrksolutions. Is that any concern for any of the oil companies to invest just this little for every new employee? They can easily ask/make every new employee to take the trainings, and then take up an attitude that, if he/she leaves, so be it! There are always provisions to pay the company back if the employee leaves.

I once asked the CEO of America`s largest phone manufacturer this, when you move your plant to the Philippines, who will buy your product ? Today, you can find these phones on Ebay collectables, his company failed. So let me ask these Globalization lovers this,WHO WILL PAY OUR NATIONAL DEBT IF ALL OUR JOBS ARE GONE,OR PAY SQUAT?"
Hey Patsy: To bad when Steve Jobs was alive you could not of ask him this same question. Guess what, Apple is moving products through the roof and no stopping. It is called innovation Baby. Maybe you will be able to ask the present CEO, the same question.

Michelle: I hate to break the news to you but many college graduates will be doing assembly line work. Last I heard something like 500,000 graduates are busing tables or deliverying pizza.

Yeah, I've waited since Reagan's "Glass half-full, or half-empty?" analogy of the supply-siders (I Greenspan had a hand in that query?) for the trickle-down effect. Well, now you can reply: "Ronald Reagan, your (OUR) glass was half empty! We're down to the slobber & drool about now..."
Supply Side economics created 15 million new jobs bud. We have lost 12 million jobs since Obama took office not to mention 900 Billion Recovery Act that did not do anything for the economy. 120,000 new jobs created in March.
You knock Reagan, but people believe in this guy.The mood in the country was much better than under this present clown. He was able to get a Democratic Congress to pass his economics package. The crap that was passed in 2010 the ACA was done by a Democratic Congress and done on a technicality. Same thing with the Recovery Act.
Just wish I could be able to post when the show is going on but I am working.

Robert I get the impression that you are somebody on public assistance and loves being there. Good luck.
AAPL -- A New CEO and at $600 a share the stock is a bit too pricey to add to a Venture Capitalist's Trust Fund. They say Apple has beat Sony in the electronics game. Does anybody remember when the Pepsi CEO ran Apple? A successful Venture Capitalist now, they say... .
John Wayne, Pilgrim, could'a been a better POTUS than Reagan. I was there in 1980. There is something wrong when even the people born after Reagan worship Saint Ronnie and they want his image on the $50 bill? Right up there with "In God We Trust." NOT me, I find the class warfare politics of Reagan's Welfare Queen offensive -- because i Believe that those that have owe to those that don't have. Unlike Ayn RAnd, we are obligated to OUR Brother.
I'm morally superior you see. You probably learned math at The Paul Ryan School and no doubt think Ryan can save Medicare. Ryan will need to learn politics, if he's gonna be a player... But, he will make a good VP for Romney... And, look at Palin, she makes a great Establishment Republican Standard Bearer for the FOX-TV religious right Channel today.
I checked into Welfare but i didn't care to lie about my assets. I may be under-employed but it is an honest living and i can sleep during the day or listen to Dian Rehmn. So yeah life ain't half bad even if ther is a bit of sediment in the bottom of my glass of cider.

Mutual Funds are still buying it up and helping 70% of working population with 401k hopefully be able to retire some day. How that for a great company?
?

Your one of those guys that loves the free stuff. Where Obama's budget dude? What other surprises is he going to give us. Tax the rich so as to share the wealth with those who don't want to work. Lefties love that.

Sounds like you don't know nothing about driving? But thats o'kay. Hey Mr. Big Government lets make a provision in SS for all those union truck drivers that will need eye surgery and a big fat pension that the US Taxpayer would be proud to contribute.
Truck Drivers transfering all those carbon down here make will over $120,000. Keep watching make believe TV and enjoy life living on some elses dime.
Yep, same thing I have read on other sites. It's legal and just because some Congressional members don't like it doesn't mean the impending collapse of our country.
