The biggest story of the week and maybe of the year is "Occupy Wall Street" and the beginning of the coalescence of the 99 percenters. It is the American People of every walk of life going to their window looking out and shouting;
"I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE"
We have finally gotten it, we have finally figured it out. The Oligarchs of Wall Street have taken our money, stolen our future and laughed in our face. This is the "American Spring" of the 99 percenters.
The big question is whether the media will be able to understand the significance of what is happening. The mainstream news media including the Diane Rheme show has a chance here to prove that it is more than just an elitist propaganda tool for the Oligarghs.
There are tens of thousands of average people who have lost faith in our future and now is the time when that faith can be restored. The media has a role to play in this , especially the reporters and commentators. It's time that they dust off their journalism degrees and remember what inspired them to become the recorders of history.

I posted a couple days ago in my commenting on Alabama's anti illegal immigration laws that Obama was a multiple felon, I was flagged and my post was deleted because of it. There are people on these boards who flag as offensive apposing views whether they are offensive or not.

I figured it would take about 3 minutes on Friday's News Roundup before a caller, emailer, or twit would pester the sub host about not fawning over the lost souls that have leaked out onto Wall Street. Congrats to you for beating their time.

Bravo to POTUS Obama for authorizing the drone attack that eradicated Anwar al-Awlaki. That Ron Paul believes this is an impeachable offense further demonstrates his bizarre mindset that keeps him from being a serious candidate for POTUS.
I have to take issue with the above Marcus, are U.S. laws on due process not bigger and more important than killing one bad guy? You do not believe this sets a precedent in a very dangerous direction?

The ACLU objects to capital punishment regardless of whether due process has been followed. No wonder they are screaming when a terrorist of American citizenship hasn't been Mirandized before being targeted for a drone attack.
POTUS Obama could have revoked Anwar al-Awlaki's American citizenship before sending in the drone, but would that have even made a difference to Paul or Bachmann, both of whom are out of the running?
Thanks for the response above, if only a small fraction of the evidence of Anwar al-Awlaki activities are true, he is a piece of scum. But it does appear that his connection to the 9/11 attacks is pretty flimsy and without a reasonably strong connection there is a problem. In my opinion it would have been better if he died in a fire fight or captured. My understanding is (Pub. L. No. 107-40, 115 Stat. 224, enacted September 18, 2001, was about killing those directly connected to the attacks of 9/11.
But what happens if Occupy Wall Street doesn't go away? What if it continues to grow bigger and bigger and eventually chokes off everything? What if he's right? What if this is the beginning of the end?
What would every one of you guys, who is deriding this do, if you turn out to be wrong?

I heard that in my hometown you are having other groups joining the protesters with there own agenda like legalizing Dope and some of these other far fetched groups. I guess some people can go from one protest to another protest without having to leave the area.

Why would you consider the Occupy Wall Street movement with any less legitimacy than the Tea Party protests that sprung up last year?
If a group of people is unhappy with their government....and this case, more to the point, "their shadow government"....wouldn't you say that there is some legitimacy to their argument? What specifically is it that legitimizes a group led by Dick Army, but de-legitimizes a group led by no one in particular? Tea Partiers if I remember correctly despised the Wall Street Bail-outs, but now stand shoulder to shoulder with Republicans who want to defang the Consumer Protection Bureau. (You can't have it both ways guys).
Aren't the Tea Partiers upset with financial irresponsiblity? Isn't that the same thing that the Occupy Wall Street people are upset by. Or do you really feel that these people are nothing more than a rabble of malcontents?
If you honestly believe that is true, I feel that you may be playing with fire.

Journalism hit a stunning new low with Chris Christie’s press conference. Once Christie had given a clear, direct explanation for his decision not to run, every reporter assembled in the room to hear him speak should have left that room in order to cover some actual news. Instead, these pathetic excuses for reporters wasted an hour parsing every syllable of Christie’s announcement. These “reporters” should have been arrested for impersonating real reporters. It would be great if citizens had the opportunity to vote every member of the Washington Press Corps out of his or her job.
The shallow and superficial reporting on the 2012 presidential election stinks to high heaven. The Washington Press Corps is obsessed with 3 things: fundraising figures, polling data from hypothetical matchups, and chasing after phantom candidates such as Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, and Chris Christie. Reporting on actual issues has been reduced to a footnote.
Occupy Wall Street people may be uninformed, but they know exactly who is really in control. Voting hasn't made a difference. The criminalized financial sector will suck this country dry. I am glad the protesters are there because I cannot afford to miss a day of work.
It's kind of ironic, banks paid back the TARP funds with interest! you could argue this was the only successful thing government did to prevent the feared financial collapse.
As for the protesters blaming Wall Street, this also seems odd. Generally speaking the bribe takers, members of the government the politicians are the real criminals. The democrat party desperate for support is trying to co opt this movement. There are a lot of communists and socialists in this crowd of what appears to be ignorant spoiled brats, Obama supporters by any other name. The Tea Party always had a coherent message "small government", small government has always been a part of the conservative republican movement, conservatives have had a problem with big government republicans for decades.

Why would you give the Occupy Wall Street movement any more legitimacy than you gave the Tea Part protests? You called it "astro-turf" (Pelosi), "Anti-Statist Radicals" (E.J. Dionne).
If you want to understand the difference, Teece, read "Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America " by Ann Coulter. Among other things, she contrasts the French Revolution with the American Revolution, how they were carried out and what they accomplished. If you don't like her, read "The Crowd" by Gustave Le Bon or "The Psychology of Revolution" by same. She bases a lot of her ideas on the brilliant work of Le Bon.
I have been waiting for Coulter to come forward on this but she is nowhere to be found. What is happening on Wall Street with the "Occupy Wall Street" crowd vs. what is happening on Main Street with the Tea Party is EXACTLY what the book would have predicted.

Have been watching and listening to the MSM describing the Occupy Wall Street protest. Many news host keep repeating that there is not a clear message coming from the protesters. Totally disagree. It is very clear and apparent that the strong common threads that runs through the Occupy protest are JUSTICE and ACCOUTABILITY. That those protesting are demanding that the same justice and accountability that is applied to the middle class applied to those who are extremely wealthy and skim off the top. Justice and Accountability the common thread running through the different issues that people are marching for. Jobs, wages, health care, ACCESS
The long hairs and unions have been getting together since before the invasion of Iraq. Hundreds of thousands of union members Vets, students, teachers, families pushing children in strollers and seniors in wheelchairs against the invasion before the invasion. The MSM ignored the hundreds of thousands in DC in the fall of 2002, winter of 2003. Ignored the regular folks in the streets. Millions nationwide, 30 million world wide marched, protested, lobbied, some were arrested. We were ignored by the MSM.

While I honor the life and work of Steve Jobs. It really seems the media is going way over board. It was as if he invented the computer. Jobs applied new uses, designs and access to the power of the computer he did not invent the computer. What I want to know is how much of the billions he made did he give back to the people that he made his billions off of.

A calle r asked why should the wealthy pay, and the answer is simple: they live amoungst the rest of us. Their well being canonly be as good as their surroundings. In order for them to live in a safe, clean, orderly neighborhood the people maintain that neighborhood. If they want their children to attend clean safe nuturing schools, then those schools must be paid for. If they want to drive on good roads, fly i safely or even have their bussiness run effeciently, they must pay for them. America can have rich and poor ( and always will) but we are not seperate.
Politics in the U.S. may seem complex, but results are clear. Cut taxes for a broad spectrum of people, focusing on the wealthy, and at the same time initiate two extraordinarily expensive foreign wars. Then, a decade later, despair at the national debt and deficit while holding hostage the debt ceiling, thereby generating an entirely artificial "debt crisis." Result: government is shackled, impotent, and deadlocked. Is there a party who espouses less government as its primary objective?
I'm sorry but your analysis which compares the Tea Party with the Occupy Wall Street movements is fundamentally wrong. The two could not be more different.
The Tea Party is funded by Billionaires Koch and Pope and the movement is profoundly anti-government and pro-business to the point of fascism.
The Occupy Wall Street group is pro-government (regulations) and anti do-whatever-I-feel-like-capitalism.
One fears government power, and the other fears corporate power.

This is a favorite meme of the left. Here, you comletely misconstrue what Christianity teaches. For example, when the disciples came to Jesus and complained that the crowd who had been listening to him would need to be fed, Jesus did not say, "Appeal to Rome for a program to feed them" or even "Appeal to the sanhedrin for a stipend". He said, "YOU give them something to eat".
THAT is the call of Christianity - to the compassion of its members, not to a program from the state. If you want to argue for a social safety net from the state, fine - just don't try to do it in the name of Christianity.

Yes, Occupy Wall Street IS real news. The protesters want an end to corporate control of virtually every of every aspect of the lives of 99% of the US population. They demand an END to the useless, illegal wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan (and scores of other countries where Obama's drones strike whenever Obama sees "risk to US national interests").
The US is spending $1 million every minute on war. We need that money here. Neither party is discussing or addressing this. So this much is clear -- Both parties are now totally useless to promoting the needs of ordinary people.
No wonder the good folks occupying Wall Street are frustrated!! All power to them.
