David Wise: "Tiger Trap"

A leading expert on intelligence and espionage offers a comprehensive account of China's spy wars with the U-S.

For decades while the U. S. was preoccupied with Soviet spies, China quietly penetrated the highest levels of our government. In fact, emerging evidence suggests China has been America’s biggest spy threat all along. Unknown to most Americans, China has discovered the details of our most advanced nuclear warhead and aerospace secrets. Their intelligence has penetrated the FBI, CIA, and the State Department. And cyber attacks by Chinese hackers on U. S. military and defense industry computers are on the rise. A look behind America’s secret spy war with China -- and what we must do to win it.

According to Servando Gonzalez "Psychological Warfare and the New World Order - The Secret War Against the American People" the Cold War was tooled by the CIA, and the Soviet Union, as we knew it, was created by "us" through the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Why should we expect anything different from the Chinese when the CFR appears at the heart of global conflict and technological distribution, having their own agenda at heart?

Can your guest address the Aipac Rosen Aipac espionage investigation and 9 time delayed trial and finally dismissed trial? I have read that FBI agents were really angry this trial was dismissed There have been numerous former CIA and FBI agents who have written a fair amount about being extremely frustrated by investigations into Israel's spying and accessing US classified documents being shut down. Can you address this. The claim is that if you touch Israel's spying you face extreme pressure to shut down investigations

Is your guest concerned about former Rep Anthony Weiner, Rep Barney Frank and others pushing for the release of Jonathon Pollard who was spying for Israel? Is he concerned with their efforts?

Dear Mr. President,
As Pesach, the holiday of freedom, comes to a close, I urge you to use your constitutional power to commute the sentence of Jonathan Pollard and allow him to join his family in Israel. This exercise in justice is not meant to imply doubt about his guilt or cast any aspersions on the process by which he was convicted. On the contrary, Mr. Pollard knows that he has committed serious crimes and after 26 years, stands as the strongest deterrent to espionage in this country. However, his charges do not merit the punishment.
It is indisputable that the disproportionate amount of time that Mr. Pollard spent in prison is a thorn in the side of the alliance between Israel and the United States. Mr. Pollard cooperated with investigators, admitted his wrongdoing, and was sentenced to life in prison. No one who has ever pleaded guilty to a similar crime has ever been sentenced to a life term.
Commuting Mr. Pollard's sentence will be viewed as an act of compassion on behalf of the United States and between two allies. Mr. President, please do what former President Bush has repeatedly refused and heed the countless calls for Pollard's freedom during this Passover season.
I thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
ANTHONY D. WEINER
Member of Congress

FRANK AND COLLEAGUES ANNOUCE THEY ARE SOLICITING
SIGNATURES FOR A LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA REQUESTING
CLEMENCY FOR JONATHON POLLARD

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Barney Frank, Congressman Bill Pascrell, Congressman Edolphus Towns and Congressman Anthony Weiner announced today that they are circulating a letter in the House of Representatives, seeking other Members to join them in asking President Obama to extend clemency to Jonathan Pollard, the former civilian defense officer who is serving a life sentence for passing classified information to Israel.
The letter notes that they are not questioning Mr. Pollard's guilt, the process by which he was convicted and sentenced, nor the necessity of punishing those who engage in espionage on behalf of allied countries. Rather, the appeal for clemency is based on the vast disparity between Mr. Pollard's sentence and the sentences given to many others who have been convicted of similar activities, even with countries that unlike Israel are or have been adversaries of the United States.

Which country do we think is spying on the US more? Israel or China? Just after Sept 11 Fox News Reporter Carl Cameron did a four part report about Israeli communication systems having access to 95% of American phone calls being infiltrating and data mining of American phone calls. That four part report can be seen at Information clearing house website. The pro lobby group Camera pressured Fox to take down the report from their website.

Israel Is Spying In And On The U.S.? Part 1

BRIT HUME, HOST: It has been more than 16 years since a civilian working for the Navy was charged with passing secrets to Israel. Jonathan Pollard pled guilty to conspiracy to commit espionage and is serving a life sentence. At first, Israeli leaders claimed Pollard was part of a rogue operation, but later took responsibility for his work.

Now Fox News has learned some U.S. investigators believe that there are Israelis again very much engaged in spying in and on the U.S., who may have known things they didn't tell us before September 11. Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron has details in the first of a four-part series.

When i was a student in China back in 1996, an American consulate employee called me to get information about my Chinese university's department president in charge of the international students. The school was home to the peace corps and I assumed it was related. It was odd, since I'd never met the person who called but had several times shared a meal and played cards with the my department president.

Is our Oligarchy partnering with Chinese overlords in the militarization of near-Earth space? Consider the massive investments in Chinese industry and banking by our wealthy class and their transnational corporations. Loyalty is to money and not to country anymore. They protect their income streams while exploiting their peoples. The common American and the common Chinese are helpless pawns in massive command economies. Our government is now a sham made of paper and we are at the mercy of transnational financial interests. We must comprehend this turn of events in order to oppose it. Blanket racial distrust is not conducive to democracy or social justice.

Scare tactics and militaristic cheerleading are techniques of social control. Why are sensitive information and controls linked to the Internet? Isn't this an engineered means of getting people to agree to corporate policing of our communications? Be loyal to your community and your fellow Americans. Resist power here at home and do not surrender to manufactured fear. Spying is a game among elites to which we are not privy. We should fear totalitarianism and not the shenanigans of the rich.

U.S. Arms Sales to Israel End Up In China, Iraq
by Jonathan Reingold

Bill Clinton spoke at Hunter College in New York on Tuesday, challenging President Bush to send American troops as part of an international peacekeeping force to the Middle East. What many Americans dont know is that U.S. forces might as well be there already.

From 1990 to 2000 U.S. military aid to Israel totaled over $18 billion. No other nation in the world has such a close relationship with the U.S. military and arms industry.

The UN, Amnesty International and other groups have raised questions about the extent the to which U.S. military aid is abetting human rights abuses by Israeli forces operating in the West Bank. These debates will no doubt continue for some time. In the mean time, however, there is another aspect of the American-Israeli relationship that may have an even greater impact on U.S. and Israeli security in the long run: the ongoing transfer of American arms technology from Israel to potential U.S. (and Israeli) adversaries around the globe.

From the most sophisticated warplanes to tank engines, artillery systems and armored vehicles, the United States is Israel's one-stop shopping center. Last year alone the U.S. sold one hundred top-of-the-line F-16s to Israel for a total of over $3 billion. That same year Israel purchased 9 of the newest Apache helicopter version equipped with the Longbow Radar system. The helicopter-buying spree didn't end with the Apaches. Israel bought fifteen Cobra attack helicopters last year along with twenty-four Black Hawk transport helicopters.

Spying by China within Academic circles is believed by many in Academia to be rampant. China is looking to take the place of America as the worlds research leader as they realize the importance science plays in the continued economic development of their system.

fascinating - i fear the pandoras box is open & there is a worldwide scramble to be the best at expionage/cyber war

and so far, china is not as good, not as aggressive, not as successful as our stuxnet attack on iran

the problem is, china, and everyone else is certainly trying

china knows we could do the same to them - we know they want to do the same to US

China is very successful and growing economically even to the point of having cargo airline hubs in American airports. Thought I heard Wise say yes but we have a stronger military. Which only makes me think that he is implying what, going after them with military force if they get too big? Knock out the competition? Again! The USA is in hock to China and we want to rise our debt ceiling without cutting war expenses due to our own selfish for profit dependency on oil. Most products bought here are made in China even Obama's kids are learning the Chinese language I think Wise need not worry about spies I think the USA may be combining with China. I think Wise in living still in a WWII mentality..it's not us and them "either you are with us or against us" mentality anymore but rather a USA on their knees to them, they have us over an oil barrel. Typically big corporations only see with immediate dog eat dog greed and not what effects they have on the welfare of the planet as a whole. Sadly there will always be war because there will always be egos and greed.

I remember the cruel irony of buying a Toshiba product just before Toshiba sold sub propeller info to the Russians and my spouse was just departing on a sub. As a security guard, I noted how Wamarts surveillance cameras were made in China, the same time security systems were hacked, to show that someone in another country can watch us in as we shop. And then, there is all the IT equipment we buy made in other countries, with who knows what software and hardware installed in it. Yes, it is a global economy, technology is developed globally and no, people committed to a nations security are not racists, they are realists; where ever spying, eavesdropping is possible – it will happen and it is nothing personal. It is business as usual. It is wholly possible to embrace other cultures, while protecting yourself from them also, completely healthy and natural.

Yep, John Oliver, and the we are cutting financial aid and school budgets, firing senior teachers. But if research is primarily for war and education mostly brainwashing for fascism what do we have anyway? Maybe the era of the nation state has been transcended, but too late to prevent the collapse of civilization? We revolutionaries better hurry up.

The Chinese economy is vibrant at the top, functional in the upper third, stagnant in the middle third and hungry and despondent in the bottom third. Maybe that is the model Eric Cantor has in mind, the model that will please his wealthy contributors. Look at their ecology, short in water and food. Who will feed them? Can we feed ourselves any longer now that farmland is corporate owned? Maybe flying to the Moon is a luxury even China can no longer afford.

rici: Social consciousness is shaped by the way one earns a living. A security guard has a spouse in the Navy so that the couple is bombarded with indoctrination, indoctrination not in their best interest, or in the interests of working class people anywhere. Therefore I see your observations and insights as exceptional.

Two observations:
WalMart watches no one more closely than their security associates.
WalMart could merge with K-mart-Sears and/or Target or Safeway any day with massive layoffs and firings. (more efficient and profitable)

Just working for a living these days makes us about as helpless as a grunt in a can of nuclear explosives under the ocean. Where is your say? Where is your vote? rici is as valuable a human being as any corporate CEO. Why does societal organization fail to reflect that? I laughed about Chinese spying on Walmart shoppers, very funny.

Great idea, swap him for Mordechai Vanunu then there will be at least one Israeli in the World that speaks truth.

"'Shame on you, Israel, and the stupid Shin Bet and Mossad spies who are returning me to jail after 24 years in which I have spoken only the truth,' Vanunu shouted in court before being led away, referring to Israel's internal security arm and its international spy service."

I believe your guest David Wise was in error when he opined that most Chinese-Americans and Chinese in America (CA/CA) were no threat to American security

I believe Dr. Wise he would agree with each of the following premises:
1 - The security apparatus of the Communist Party of China uses, within China, denial of jobs, denial of housing, denial of children's education, house arrest, violence and murder as normal and legitimate tools to enforce China's state policies.
2 - This treatment is applied not only to the suspect, but also to friends and family of the suspect.
3 - The vast majority of CA/CA have relatives or friends in China. The exception would be for girls adopted as young children and Chinese-Americans in the USA for more than 3 or so generations.
4 - The security apparatus knows (or can easily research) the relatives and friends of every Chinese person in America.

Given the above, almost all CA/CA are under the threat of having everyone they know in China consigned to destitution, imprisonment or murder. That threat would be most persuasive to any individual directed to do a "few favors for the Motherland." Therefore, I posit that Dr. Wise is wrong in making the remark that most Chinese in America are no threat. Given the facts, I do not see any other conclusion than that most CA/CA are beholden by the most serious personal threats to the espionage goals of the Chinese security and military. They may not have been "activated" for Chinese espionage, but few would be able to resist a command from the Chinese security apparatus. Who among us would consign our entire social circle to hell rather than make a few photocopies?

July 14, 2011 - 4:19 pm

This book is long past overdue - too many Americans would rather criticize and handicap the CIA than make it more effective. But the interview made no mention of what might have been the most high-profile slap in response to China's ongoing espionage: the cruise missle bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia on May 7, 1999. The media was quick to repeat the official excuses of a targeting error but no mention was made that Chinese agents were scouring the countryside trying to buy and locate pieces of the stealth fighter for their own stealth weapons development. This "accidentally on purpose" missile strike of the Chinese embassy closest to the wreckage - which presumably was coordinating the espionage activity and collating the pieces for shipment to China - occurred just 6 weeks after the F117 was shot down. I've never heard anyone publicly connect these two events but think the coincidence is far too remote to be an accident. Would have liked to have heard Mr. Wise's opinion but could not call in from the West Coast to ask him myself.
