It's clear that the Japanese government were downplaying the severity of the harm done by the reactor in Fukushima. However, both are class 7 only because there is no category above 7 to differentiate the two incidents.
Although, I suspect that we're still not getting the full truth about the radiation release and damage from Fukushima.
John McCain is advocating increased U.S. presence in Libya. I hope President Obama does NOT listen to the McCain. NATO's role is to protect Libya's civilians...NOT act as the opposition's air force. We've been down this road to nowhere too many times. I would suggest Mr. McCain listen to Defense Secretary Gates' admonition that anyone who suggests sending ground troops into the middle east needs his head examined.
Tom Gjelten says that Bahrain is unique in that it has a sectarian element. But isn't there a tribal element in Lybia? Although Ghdaffi is hiring mercenaries, he does have some tribal support if I understand that correctly. Is that true?
People who try to compare Chernoble to Fukashima fail to recognize that Chernoble is located in the middle of a continent and Fukashima is located on a global radiation delivery system, notably the Pacific ocean.
Second comment. If Radioactive iodine has reached Boston, why are we not testing for the other more dangerous radioactive elements, namely cesium and plutonium?
I don't want details about Fukushima or Libya. I want policies that will lessen the chances of any more nuclear accidents or US involved wars. We reading adults clearly understand our history lessons. The oligarchial wealthy class amounts to an interlocking global union. They are strategically invested by contract and government manipulation to a degree that they can extract tribute from the general population in response to any catastrophe or conflict. Sometimes they become impatient for speeded revenue stream to the degree that they engineer technological mishaps into initial designs and foment warfare, not being content with the typical financial frauds and collusions.
Now if I had large wealth I'd like to think I could decline these cruel actions, but I suspect there is a wolfpack dynamic where nonconformist masters are ostracized and stripped of their holdings as soon as they develop a genuine conscience.
Maybe I'd rather remain a working citizen with a little class consciousness than expect an unlikely jackpot. My head is on leveler and straighter than the biggest billionaire, and I must thank DRShow (partially) for that.
