I am no fan of Berlusconi and I hope justice prevails..but I find it interesting that the Europeans were so quick to forgive director Roman Polanski yet now want to prosecute Berlusconi. Could there be some politics involved here? I also find it interesting that the Europeans look down on our American "Puritan" ways yet now they have 2 sex scandals of their own...this one and the Assange scandal.

During the 2007-08 academic year, I was in Bahrain as a Fulbright Scholar. I am surprised at the strength of the resolve of the protestors because, while I was there, frequent small demonstrations occurred regularly in the majority Shi'ite areas, but never seemed to gain any traction. Even at the University, where students were treated as children, with library, gymnasium, and student center doors closed and locked evenings, nights, and weekends because of past protests, there was hardly a complaint heard. The present action, regrettable for the loss of life and the injuries to so many, shows much more spirit than I saw in my year there.
