The service can only charge what the large number of payors can afford. If the service is healthcare, and I am the payor, the prices are lower than if the payor is insurance companies. Aren't the insurance companies in some ways responsible for the high cost of health care?
The reason we no longer innovate or create is because those who actually have the brains to do it are not really given any respect or financial benefit. They are now the "worker horses" and the only people who get promoted or elevated are the do nothing people who just attend meetings and are experts at promoting themselves. There is no consequence for a CEO or President or Vice President of a company that makes decisions that result in the failure of a company. They move around so that they are not around when the problem hits the fan. Managing people and process is more important in the USA, than actually creating/inventing something. Frequently the excuse is that we don't want to take these talented engineers from their creating/inventing so we will elevate someone else who is gifted in managing. I would agree with that, if the engineers were compensated and given the same authority to make decisions as the manager (who usually comes with a financial background), rather than being overworked with too many projects and concretely underappreciated.
In this current climate, if your son/daughter is good in math, don't let them go into engineering, send them to finance because the rich will always want someone to manage their money and if you can make them more money the better. Yes, I sound cynical, but we have a gov't filled with lawyer and businessmen who don't really respect and/or understand the engineer and without regulations (limiting CEO pay, etc), nothing will change. By the way I come from a family of multiple engineers and 2 of them have PhDs in their fields. We know what we're talking about.
Thank you both Diane and Michael for the show.
I agree with many advanced thinking proposed and initiated by Mr. Moore
15% corp profits transfer to double the costs for health medical and all other industries and in every 5 years... Capitalism failed its purpose.
Thank you for doing what you're doing. Mr. Moore!
Now can we look into the Labeling of GMO food?

I think it is great to have documentaries available to explain our realities to the general public. I think it would also really strengthen people's ability to wrap their heads around our current situation if someone would make one called "S#!@ Happens." I think we could all benefit from the realization the Congress, the House, and the President (and any other one person or group of people) can not control our whole world. Government is very important, but I think some people treat our government like their own higher power. Sometimes bad things happen. Think about how much worse off we would all be if we didn't have a president like Obama, who tries his best to do as much positive work as he can while he can.
In addition, I really appreciate Michael Moore's spirit of personal responsibility for taking care of society. Thanks for spreading the word!
Diane,
Thank you so much for your wonderful interview with Michael Moore. He is so right on about everything!! I especially appreciate your questioning him about his faith and religion. I, too, wrestle with the issues he so eloquently discussed. Why can't we stop being so selfish and spend more of our energy trying to bring everyone up in our society. We spend so much of our time, energy and money trying to get to the top of the heap that we seem to not care about who we step on to get there. I am a nurse practitioner and am deeply troubled by the fear that many express about daring to extend the right to decent health care to everyone. I have been very fortunate and am thankful for the blessings I have had in my life. I want to thank you and Michael Moore for highlighting the issues that are should be a no-brainer for the betterment of our society. Of what is everyone so afraid?
Pure sophistry!
Michael Moore’s assertion today, on your show, that the certain people have hijacked Christianity in order to rationalize a political point of view opposing abortion, because the Bible never specifically mentions ‘abortion’, was mind boggling. So Jesus gives implied consent for abortion because the practice was never specifically discussed in the Bible?
While I find the logic of Moore’s assertion, and your acquiescence of it, very troubling; what concerned me most, Diane, was that you didn’t even challenge this point of view in general.
Can you imagine the use of technology that can be justified because it wasn’t specifically discussed in the Bible?
Jesus never mentions the use of nuclear weapons, or manipulating DNA to create a super race, or the proliferation of CO2 by the burning of fossil fuel either. Should we deem these omissions as God’s implied consent to these practices too?
interesting interview-- hadn't heard about Moore's religious views before. Pritikin sounds like South Beach Diet.
