A decade ago, DNA evidence corroborated Annette Gordon-Reed's controversial assertion that Thomas Jefferson fathered children with his slave Sally Hemings. Her latest book won the National Book Award and gives the most comprehensive account to date of an American slave family, and their life at Monticello and in Paris.

Annette Gordon-Reed does not have any proof that Thomas Jefferson fathered the Hemings children and neither does Monticello. The original Campaign lie of James Callender was proven just that....A LIE by the DNA Study. There was no match of Jefferson-Woodson DNA.
The study by Dr E.A. Foster ran afoul of all professional procedures when Foster tested a KNOWN carrier of both Jefferson and Hemings DNA (as claimed by his ancestors as being from "a Jefferson uncle or his sons"). I advised Dr Foster, (I was his assistant), to notify Nature Journal of this almost certain match because of the family claims, but he REFUSED to inform Nature and thus he and Nature "concocted" a false headline, "Jefferson fathers slave's last child." This is a LIE, the DNA merely confirmed the Eston Hemings family claim that they descended from a "Jefferson uncle or nephew", meaning his much younger brother, Randolph, and his sons. NOT Thomas. Eston NEVER claimed descent from Thomas.
Monticello took the falsified and contrived study, appointed an African-American oral history specialist that conducted a biased and one sided study according to a member of their study group, Dr Ken Wallenborn, who wrote a Minority Report that was "swept under the rug" and not originally released. Upon hearing of this deception I contacted the TJMF Chairman and requested an explanation. Dan Jordan, then Monticello President, then apologized to Dr Wallenborn.
