author of the Conan Doyle biography "Teller of Tales"  and co-editor of "Arthur Conan Doyle: A Life in Letters." His most recent book is "The Beautiful Cigar Girl: Mary Rogers, Edgar Allan Poe and the Invention of Murder." A two-time Edgar award winner, he is the author of five mystery novels.
