In his new book, journalist Hampton Sides describes a daring World War II rescue attempt in the Philippines. In 1945, a small band of U.S. Army Rangers and Filipino guerrilla soldiers went behind enemy lines to liberate American troops from a Japanese prison camp. The mission made headlines at the time, but is all but forgotten today.
