Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney edged out Rick Santorum by eight votes to win the Iowa caucuses, and Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann bowed out of the race after a fifth-place finish; President Obama appointed former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray to lead the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, defying Senate opposition; and unemployment remained unchanged from December at 8.5%.
